What do we know about WDW 40th?

Forgive me as I am sure there is a thread on this somewhere but I could not find... Do we know what is being planned for the 40th?

We are planning on being there on the exact day (10/1/11)... Will there be anything special?

If not it will still be special for us. Love Disney!

I have no idea if there is anything special planned, but I am hoping DH plans something for me!! I turn forty one month and one day before my home away from home and I would love to celebrate together!!!

So far nothing is known about what, if anything, Disney is doing to celebrate the 40th. The Fantasy Land expansion won't be done in time, and there are no other major projects going on. It's speculated that the recent Main Street refurbishments are somehow connected, but so far it's all just guessing at this point.

I was there today at MK and was walking thru a gift shop when I overheard one CM talking to another CM that new items were coming in Jan. for the 40th Anniversary

Well that's cool! Always love some new stuff to look at.

Has anyone ever been there on an actual anniversary day? Can we maybe at least look forward to extra special fireworks on October 1st or anything like that?

Again, I know it would be a guess as of now but just wondering what people's thoughts are.

I was in EPCOT for its 25th anniversary in 2007. There was alot of speculation beforehand if they were going to do anything to commemerate the anniversary. They did have a celebration ceremony in the morning. Some 25th anniversary merchandise (including a Dream Finder Figment plush!) was for sale and they had a history of EPCOT display, but I do not recall any other special events or extra fireworks, etc.

I'd expect there to be more celebration with WDW's 40th!

Following the rave reviews of Destination D: Disneyland '55, D23 has announced Destination D: Walt Disney World 40th Anniversary, to be held in spring 2011 (exact dates TBD). The event will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Orlando resort, its history and heritage. Panels will include all-new presentations that echo the successful panels at Destination D: Disneyland '55, including "Walt Disney World: The Way We Were," hosted by Disney Legend Dave Smith, "Weird Disney" with Walt Disney Archives director Becky Cline, "From Quirky to Collectible: The Wonderful World of Walt Disney World Merchandise," "Walt Disney World Through the Eye of Television" and "Walt Disney World in Pop Culture," as well as a special evening event featuring musical memories from throughout the history of Walt Disney World. Other panels, featured speakers and details will be announced soon.

As someone else stated, my 40th (gasp!) is the same month as Disney's 40th (October 30th!)

I'm curious as to what else will be going on besides what they've mentioned in this blurb!

I am going to go out on a limb and say nothing special will go on. Maybe a small ceremony like Epcot's 25th (we were there that day too) but nothing major. Any big celebrations would bound to cause confusion amount those who remember the worldwide very well advertised: 50th celeberation for DL's bday (in 2005) and the 100 years of magic celebration (for Walt's 100th bday) in the early 2000's.

But to paraphrase Cheshire Figment (he says it better) "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of the Disney Marketing department?"
