What do the grandkids call you?

My paternal grandparents were Grandma and Grandpa. My greatgrandmother was Mammy, and my grandmother hated it and was very happy with Grandma.

My maternal grandparents were Grandmom and Grandpop. 2 sets of my cousins call him Pappy, and my siblings and another set call him Grandpop. He is now a great grandfather to 14 and goes by Grandpop Last name to pretty much everyone.

My DH called both sets of Grandparents MomMom and Pop Last name.

My inlaws were very young when SIL had her kids so they kind of decided what to call them. They go by Nana and PopPop. I hate it, but thats what they go by and what my kids call them too.

My kids are the only ones on my side so we got to pick. My mom always wanted to just be Grandmom. So thats what she is called and my dad is find with Grandpop. It was mispronounced by the kids when they were little (age appropriate) but we continued to correct them and they are good now.

For my side of the family, we all did Grandma and Grandpa. If you were talking about certain ones, you might go with Grandma LAST NAME of the family. So Grandma Smith vs Grandma Jones, etc.

My DH side of the family goes with those cutsey southern names. So there's Mimi and PopPop, Nanny and Poppy, etc.

I prefer the Grandma and Grandpa versions. Just feels more respectful of the person but also...well...makes them sound like people who have respect and aren't um... silly. I feel like an idiot referring to Poppy. Plus, it's easier to figure out who you're talking about and what the relationship is. They even use those type names with aunts and uncles. So there's an aunt who is Mimi - but her grandkids call her Mimi also. Just confusing. But maybe I'm grumpy.

My mom is Mamor (norwegian), and my dad is pop-pop. DH's mom is Grandma and his dad is Grandpap.

We don't have kids but my husband and both have siblings with kids. His mom and dad are Pop and Nanna

My mom is Oma (German). Mom never re-married so there is no "grandpa" on that side

Do the grandparents really get to pick their nicknames? All the kids in my family picked what to call their grandparents. My MIL really wanted a "special" name since my SIL's MIL's got one, but nope...it never took with the grandkids. She's Grandma [First Name] to all of her grandkids. She got used to it eventually.

I don't want to be "Granny" or "Grandma" or "Mamaw"…I am a younger (cough, cough) 47 yr old.

My parents (and my grandparents on my Mom's side) were Nanny and Papa.

My Cousins (on my Dad side) all use Gee Gee and Bumpa.

My other cousins on my My Mom's side use Meme and Pepere with their maternal grandparents (they are French Canadian I think).

In the end, you are going to be whatever the oldest grandchild decides to call you.

I am 43 and my DFi is 39... I have 4 young yet grown children from a previous relationship and currently 7 grandchildren (Whew HAHA)

They call me Nana and my DFi Papa Martyne as all the grandpas are Papa somebody. lol the other grandmas are older and the kids call them grandma, i prefer Nana because it doesn't make me feel as old.

My kids call both grandparents, "Amma and Poppa."

Grandma came out as Amma, and it's just stuck ever since.

My mom's parents were Mamama and Grandaddy to me. Don't know how I came up with it, but they swear that's what I settled on. It apparently used to be Dadaddy, but the adults balked at that and changed it.

My dad's mom and stepdad are Nana and Papa, though I'm the only one out of 11 cousins who uses Papa instead of Grampa. We now have great grandkids on that side, so my aunt and Uncle became Nanny and PopPop. Nana became Grape-Nanny, because Cameron couldn't say "great".

A perfect example of why the adults should have some say....

My DS2 is a bit of a late talker. Finally started saying Grandmom pretty clearly (comes out as Mah-Mum, but we know who he means and its getting clearer every day). So over Labor Day we went to a picnic at my Aunt Beth's house. For whatever reason my DS2 was very taken with her and now refuses to call my mom anything else except Beth. He refers to her as Beth, her car as Beth's car, her house as Beth's house, ect. At first it upset my mom a lot, but now we just ignore it and continue to refer to everything as Grandmom's house, Grandmom's car, etc. Eventually he will stop. While its cute/funny now, we aren't going to let it go and her be "beth" for the rest of her life, that is kind of weird

My mother in law was pushing for DD to call her grandmommy. She started saying it at about 18 months, but it came out "Gommy", and that has stuck.

Her other grandparents, she has dubbed them Gaw and Paw, which we find super adorable.

I have known a kid that called his young-ish grandpa "Dude"

My dad gets called Gran'pa, while DH's parents are Mimi and Pappy. DH's grandparents are Grandma and Papa to everyone in the family. Everyone chose their names.

Both sets of grandparents.have chosen their names. Whether grandma and grandpap stay that when DD starts talking, we will see. I expect.mamor.and pop pop will remain the same as everyone (including my brother/sil/nephews and DH) all refer to them as mamor/pop-pop

In our family we have Gram and Pops and Granny and Pop Pop. I had a Nana growing up - love that name!

Friends' of ours have a "Willow" for a grandmother. She picked her own name.

GiGi is most commonly (well, around here) used for great-grandmas because it's the abbreviation -- G.G. for great grandma. So you'll want to take that into consideration.

My mom was 48 when my oldest was born... she's called Grandma.
My oldest went through a phase of calling her Grrr when she was little and couldn't pronounce Grandma and now my twins are in that phase and call her Gaga.

My MIL is called Oma and my step-MIL is called Grandma ______ (last name).

I had 4 sets of grandparents growing up.
My Dad's Mother and her husband were Grandma "insert last name" and Grandpa "insert last name".
My Dad's Father and his wife were Nana and Papa.
My Mom's Mother has always been Gram.
My Mom's Father was Grandma/Grandpa "insert last name"
I don't know if I came up with these (I'm the oldest of the "didn't marry in later grand kids on all counts) or they were told to me and I rolled with it.

Now that I have a little one, my Mom (52) chose hers and is Gramma Bonnie or Gramma depending on if my Gram is around (they are almost always together and adding my Mom's name keeps Bug from getting confused) and my Gram is G-Gram. My Dad (48) is Grumpy...he's a grumpy old fart and knows it This one I chose for him. My stepsisters kids call him Pawpaw...I think.

My kids call my parents Grandma and Papa and my hubby's are Tha and Yeiy (Cambodian words for Gma and Gpa) and for me my grandparents were Mimi and Papa on one side and Grandma and Grandpa "last name" on the other. It takes out a lot of confusion when you have different names for different couples
