oh god really? why is it such a impoartant item as i never seem to need it here, guess i better finish work soon and seach the house

thanks for the help, i was going to say the last 3 times i have driven out there no one has ever asked for it guess i have to either hope i can find it or just try to use my english charm on them lol

I'm sure I had to show mine when we picked up the car from the Alamo desk at MCO.

I think you may need both as photocards could be forged, and maybe to see how many points you have (as they're on the paper licence) - I don't know, just guessing.

You need to carry it along with the rental agreement in the vehicle. The reason being that if you are stopped by the police you will need to show them both the card and paper parts of the licence.

That was always my understanding but why would companies like Avis say you don't require it?:confused3

I don't know but they didn't know/ask for the iDP when they was law so I don't trust them really!

In the UK if the police ask for you to produce your DL they require both parts as that is the complete licence.

I always carry both just in case!

I've read that in some cases you need an IDP (International Driving Permit) too. We have got one just in case for our December trip (didn't cost much - about a fiver I think).

Unless your DL is in a foriegn language they are 100% not required. That is the only reason for one. The Florida lawmakers passed a law earlier this year which said they were required but it was revoked not long after, they admitted they had made a mistake passing the law.
