hey guys we fly in less then a week and i have just been told that i need the paper part of my driving iciense to get my car hirer do you think if i ring up and say i aint got it they will let me off
After just spending the last 15 mins Googling and reading lots of pages I am no wiser.
Personally rented over 50 cars in the US and never once been asked for the paper part, always shown my Photo card only but I wouldn't want to risk going without it myself.
thanks for the help, i was going to say the last 3 times i have driven out there no one has ever asked for it guess i have to either hope i can find it or just try to use my english charm on them lol
I'm sure I had to show mine when we picked up the car from the Alamo desk at MCO.
I think you may need both as photocards could be forged, and maybe to see how many points you have (as they're on the paper licence) - I don't know, just guessing.
You need to carry it along with the rental agreement in the vehicle. The reason being that if you are stopped by the police you will need to show them both the card and paper parts of the licence.

I've read that in some cases you need an IDP (International Driving Permit) too. We have got one just in case for our December trip (didn't cost much - about a fiver I think).

Unless your DL is in a foriegn language they are 100% not required. That is the only reason for one. The Florida lawmakers passed a law earlier this year which said they were required but it was revoked not long after, they admitted they had made a mistake passing the law.
