What do I get AP?

Crazy confusion here.

I assume I'll get the DVC slider with my reservation bands.

I also assume I will get the rfid AP card when I activate my DVC AP?

Also I will activate my AP at checkin. Will they out the pass on my bands and give me the rfid card?

Also when I activate will they give me the discount card so I don't have to carry the AP AND the band?

Also the bands that are being mailed to AP holders come with a slider and a discount card. Will I get these 2 items when I activate my pass?

Seems dumb that they wont mail me the band/slider/discount card till after I get home.

This all seems VERY odd.

Sorry, this is ALL new to me!
Always got 10 day non expiring but getting the PAP with my DVC discount tomorrow. What the heck is a slider and do I not get mailed a Magic Band now that I will be getting a PAP voucher mailed to me?

A slider is just an accessory that goes on your Magic Band. It does nothing.

And no, you will "not" get any Magic Band because you bought an AP voucher.

Once you activate the AP voucher they will mail you the bands.

You will get your resort bands as normal. Just no extra AP bands with the AP stuff until you activate the pass.

I again don't understand why they don't give the AP stuff out when you activate the pass. popcorn::

SO, is this correct?
I order my PAP tomorrow and Disney will send me a voucher, correct?
I use my voucher number and order my FP+ on my computer, correct?
I go on my trip in September and take my voucher and go to a Ticket/Guest Relations window and activate my voucher, correct?
When I activate my voucher, Disney THEN sounds me, through snail mail, the Magic Band, even though I am physically standing there in the park, correct?

What happens in September when I use my PAP for the first time during that "year"? Do I get a Magic Band to use in the parks or just a PAP card? If I get a Magic Band at Guest Relations, which one is the correct one to use, the one from the one trip I am currently on or the one that is mailed to me? How do I access my FP+?

For a newbie PAP/AP holder (usually get 10 day non expiring) this is all very confusing :confused3

I was asking similar AP question on a different thread, but will chime in here since the discussion is already going on. Seems totally crazy that in the technological world in which we're now living that they would have to mail us a paper voucher and make us go to guest services (or wherever) to get it activated, only to then wait for Magic Bands, etc., to be mailed after that point. We'll have MBs our first time anyway since we're staying on property, so it's not a big deal, but the redundancy is just nuts. The APs we bought through DVC last week are already showing up on our MDE account/app...and other reservations and information seems to find its way to our account in record time (not to mention what WDW knows about all of us, our shopping and dining habits, etc.!)...so I'm at a loss as to why they can't just drop the Magic Bands and whatever comes with them (discount cards, etc.) in the mail now and let us skip the "drop in" visit when we get to property. After all, they already have my money for the APs and will be foregoing other money I could be spending on food or merch rather than waiting in line at guest services - ha!

Thank you.

Just called last week to get our very first APs, too, so I've had same questions (also have history of 10-days with no expiration). Pretty sure all initial questions get a "yes, correct" answer. As soon as you order the AP, they will show up in your MDE app but no MB available quite yet (have to activate the AP on property the first time). However, from what I have been told by the WDW operators, once we enter the park the first time on the AP, if we already are using a MB because we're staying on property, then our AP information will immediately get triggered in our MDE account as "active" and the MB can be used for park access from that point forward.

Our first AP-using trip will involve a three-resort split stay (don't ask!) in July. Thus, we have the opportunity (and are taking it) to have three separate MBs for each member of our family for that first trip. We will then have a two-resort split stay in August, so we'll get two more, plus the AP ones that we'll have by that time. So by the end of the summer, we will each have six MBs (kids are already excited about having most of the colors in such a short time). If I understand it correctly, as long as we're linking future resort reservations to our MDE account, etc., we will be able to use any or all of those MBs on future trips. I'm guessing that at some point we'll just deactivate any new MBs for a while until we break one and need a replacement!

This is all correct. Basically, all Magic Bands are tied to your MDE account, so every Magic Band you're issued (no matter how many of them are sent) will all function identically ... all of your "entitlements" happen on the software side. Effectively, your MagicBands just cross-reference your MDE account when they're scanned.

So why do they send so many of them? Because they can't know in advance what your plans are, if the battery in an older band may have died, etc. They don't want to activate APs before they have to (since that sets the clock ticking on when they expire), so the system that tracks when to send your AP Magic Bands doesn't kick off until you're already in the park. Could they just give you them when you activate? Yes, but Disney is trying to create a personalized experience here, so they give you that option to do that when you get home.

Of course, this gets ridiculous when you get to DVC members who do multiple stays in short succession, some on points and some not, because the timeframes are so compressed that it seems like mistakes are being made, when the system is really working exactly as it should. So you end up with what seems like an inordinate number of bands, which doesn't happen in standard usage scenarios (a family taking a trip to a single resort once a year or less). In that time frame, bands can be lost or batteries go bad, so the system automatically ships new ones. But compress that down into, say, three trips at different resorts and adding an annual pass on top of that, and you end up with a lot of bands due to those failsafes.

I can understand them not sending customized AP bands until active because lets face it, we all have many bands already. Sending of AP bands is also mainly for AP holders who are not staying onsite. A lot of locals comes to mind.

BUT, they should hand you the discount card AND AP slider with the activated AP. And they should check if you have a current resort MB and it should be noted and no more bands mailed.

I'm sure with time Disney will get this sorted out. I suspect right now they just want to flood the bands so they are sure all guest possible have them.

PS. Why would anyone buy a MB on Ebay? They can't be moved to a new account once activated. :crazy2:

Thank you all.
So, when I check in to VGF, they will give me a Magic Band, just because I am staying there and that is used for my charging, is this correct?
Then, I will go over to MK, with my voucher and my MB and have my PAP activated. Once they activate, Disney will send me MB to my home (even though I'm standing in the MK) but also, the MB that was issued to me at VGF, will now have my PAP information on it and I can use that band for multiple trips throughout the year, is that correct?
What, then, happens with the charging privledges. Perhaps on this trip I want to use one credit card and on another trip, a different card. Does this get changed every time I check in to a new resort if I want?
Thank you all VERY much!
Calling today for the PAP. I cannot do online is that correct too?

My mom has to get her regular AP. Will prices be going up? Not sure when she should purchase her regular AP. Our first trip is in September.

Yes, the MagicBand you get for staying on-property will have your activated PAP on it as well. If you're going in September, you won't get a MagicBand at checkin ... it'll be mailed to you in advance. You should be able to log into MyDisneyExperience.com and personalize it right now if you're already booked.

Charging privileges are established when you check-in. The only thing you can't do is have two different credit cards charged for two different guests in a room. All MagicBand purchases are put onto the room account, and the assigned credit card is billed when certain thresholds are met. You can make it so one guest is not authorized to charge to the room, though. They would need to use a credit card / gift card to make purchases like usual.

What you can do is have gift cards applied to your room account at check-in, effectively putting a negative balance on the room. However, there is nothing stopping your guest from overcharging that balance, and of course, your purchases would come off the same balance.

Just tried to purchase online and it is not giving me the discount....gggrrr.
I am now on hold and my wait time was given as approximately 25 minutes.
Why can't the discount show up online if it is giving me an option to purchase :scared:
