That's what I grew up with too, living on a farm in the central valley of CA. Everyone I know now calls it shepherds pie no matter what meat it is. Most of the people I mention that to have never heard that it is supposed to be lamb.

How interesting thank you. I love hearing about food history particularly from other countries. I am forever using google thinking..why is that called baked Alaska etc..
