My SIL and I were talking about this.

We grew up putting ketchup on Tacos. This totally grosses her out!

We never had salsa in our house, my mom hated spicey foods so we just didnt have it, so we used ketchup.

So what did you grow up doing that you thought everybody did?

Fellow Ketchup on Taco friends UNITE!!!! he he. I do this too-my husband thinks I'm strange. Hey! I like it-leave me alone. I like salsa, too but I grew up with ketchup.
Another thing I grew up with-my family always took a one week vacation together at the beach or the mountains. When I get talking friends now, it seems like there are many that did not grow up doing this.
I was very lucky!

My sisters and I all put potato chips on our peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. Got really strange looks from our friends when we would do it at their houses tho.... :crazy2:

My family salted everything! Pizza, steaks, even WATERMELON! Thanks goodness I don't carry on that "heart attack waiting to happen" tradition! :)

Pouring chocolate milk on vanilla ice cream or vice versa. I still do it and hubby thinks I'm nuts. It's so yummy!

Not me, but when my mom married my step-dad I found that he and his daughters ate cake in a way I found strange. In a bowl with milk. :confused3

I also salted apples, still do sometimes. The whole sweet & salty thing goes well together.

We put ketchup on our tacos and salted our watermelon. We also mixed our corn (whole kernel, not creamed) in our spaghetti.

Smoked "cat tails" (the kind that grow by a marsh, not the kind attached to a cat!). We would light the end and pretend it was a cigar. Just found out recently that not everyone did that :teeth: .

I do that too!

My sister and I never put milk on our cereal. Glass of milk and bowl of cereal are fine but the two should never mix. We both still eat it the same way.
DH thinks I'm crazy.

oh - here's one I forgot - my DH puts grape jelly on grilled cheese sandwiches! yuck!

When us kids had an upset stomach, our Mom would give us a bowl of crumpled-up saltines and milk. I don't know where she got the idea that this would help, but we always ate it, and it seemed to do something!

The ketchup on tacos thing is funny, we do mayonaise. Dh was grossed out the first time he had tacos at my house!!

My family says reecees peieceees. I didn't know till I met Dh that it was reeces pieces. :rotfl:

fried balogne sandwiches, catsup on mac-n-cheese, camping and having pancakes made from a mix that came in a carton and s'mores

played spud, four square and flashlight tag

oh and I forgot, vinegar on fries

Milk on jello. Thought everyone did this. I started dating DH when I was 14 and he thought that was crazy until he tried it. Now he does it too.

Friends of mine salted watermelon and I thought they were crazy. Also knew a family that put sugar on pizza. Ugghh, but to each their own.

I also grew up putting ketchup on my tacos. I still love it, but DH doesn't. My mom would also sprinkle bran on our tacos. Guess she was worried about our fiber intake. Didn't affect the taste, but it's not something I would ever do.

DH puts raisins into his spaghetti sauce. Yuck! That one I just can't do.

Oh, another one, I put Italian salad dressing on my mac and cheese. Yummy!

Maybe it was because we were poor, but sometimes my mom would give us leftover rice for breakfast. She would put some sugar on it then pour milk over it. It was really yummy.

Another thing she would do is crumble up graham crackers and poor milk over them for breakfast. It turns into nasty looking mush, but it tastes SOOOO good!

We salted oranges, apples, cantelope, and watermelon. Never thought it strange. I still salt them sometimes. DH thinks I am crazy.

We ate pb and mayo sandwiches. Thought everyone did.

We were kind of poor and always had a big garden (an acre) so we always had lots of veggies. Sometimes we only had meals with fresh veggies no meat. DH came to the house one time when my mom had fixed all veggies and asked me where the meat was. It didn't even dawn on me that you needed meat. I didn't eat store bought veggies until I was in college.

ohmigoodness, rice cereal was soooo yummy!!!!

oh we did the vinegar on fries still do thats an English/Canadian thing.

sliced cheese on spagetti we did that too.

My brother and I used to climb to the top of this pine tree in our backyard and let go, it was a perfect triangle shape so we just kind of slid down the branches and they broke our fall enough that we basically just bounced off the ground lightly.

I thought everybody did stuff like that
