What did you grow up doing that you thought everybody did?

chips on sandwiches

fries in milkshakes

chocolate bars (melted) on popcorn

apple sauce and meatloaf

my friend likes peanut butter and pickles.... :confused3

I've been reading about everyone's peanut butter sandwiches and I've concluded peanut butter goes with everything.

When I was a kid we ate peanut butter and syrup sandwiches when we ran out of jelly.

These days I prefer peanut butter and honey sandwiches instead of peanut butter and jelly.

Saltines in Frostys (or French fries if the saltines aren't available)

Pepper on Cantaloupe

salt on watermelon

Potato chips on hamburgers.

Tartersauce on Fries

Mustard on fries

Potato Chips on any sandwich
Dipping cheetos in Ketchup
apricot jelly on a grilled cheese and dipping it in ketchup
melting american cheese in my spaghetti o's and then topping it with Parmesan Cheese (can you tell I am a cheese addict!!!!)
Hot lemonade (like hot chocolate)
Dipping fries in Mayo

:teeth: I would go thru phases where I would put coke or pepsi with my milk, and eat hot dogs or hamburger meat raw! :rolleyes2 My DH put Mustard on his fries and I thought HE was nuts! :confused3 :rotfl:

I don't think we ate anything weird.

We NEVER went on a vacation when I was growing up. We would go visit relatives in other states, but that was it. And we NEVER stayed in a hotel until we moved so far from the relatives that it was impossible to drive straight through (Tampa to Topeka). The first time we went anywhere that didn't involve going to stay with relatives was when I was 16 and my parents took me, my friend, and my little sister to WDW and Cypress Gardens. 1 day at MK, 1 day at Cypress, and the night in between we stayed in an offsite motel. Yay. Oh, the cousins would come from out of state and stop by our house on the way to WDW but I never was allowed to go with them. My father was (and still is) a jerk. My first trip to Disney was a school field trip in 8th grade.

DS9 has gone to visit relatives ONCE, and we stayed in a hotel when we got there. Our 3rd trip to Disney is in August. WHO KNEW you could go places where you weren't related to anybody? Sad, really...

I love sugar and milk on crushed saltines (cracker cereal!). My dad and I also both eat cake in a dish with milk poured over it. We had breakfast foods at dinner time once a month or so, but DH thinks that is silly. (He also thinks it is silly that I eat leftovers for breakfast!) We would put butter and sugar on white rice ~ yum!

Dipping my toast in my tea and eating it.

I'm half-adopted and when I first did this in front of one of my cousins (I was about 6 so she would have been about 10) she very nearly vomited.

:teeth:

Pickles and kool-aid

Pizza and ranching dressing

Chicken and racnching dressing

Ate beef liver. I thought everyone did, until the night I asked one friend to stay for dinner. When I told her what we were having her reaction was :scared: :crazy2:

Maybe it was because we were poor, but sometimes my mom would give us leftover rice for breakfast. She would put some sugar on it then pour milk over it. It was really yummy.

Funny! That´s actually how we make rice pudding here in Iceland. We usually use rice left-overs, heat it up with milk and sprinkle it with cinnamon and sugar. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

but my Mom and Dad didnt like cold pizza so they would leave the left-overs on the counter and eat it room temp the next day........they never seemed to get sick. I thought everyone ate say old room temp pizza until I got old enough to learn NO!!!!!!

Freyja,

We used to have the rice like that too, heated up, cinnamon and sugar and milk, I haven't thought about that in a long time, I used to love it. Might have to make me up some.

fried bologna, mayo, and chip sandwiches
fries dipped in milkshakes (Wendy's frostys actually are the best with fries)
Pb&j and chip sandwiches
french fries dipped in mayo
raw hamburger right out of the package (I didn't die)
raw hotdogs
pizza for breakfast
My brother would eat dog biscuits (My mom had to keep them up away from him) I could get him to do anything for me with a dog biscuit ;)

Now mind you I would rather die than eat any of this stuff now. ;)

I always made peanut butter sandwiches with cut up celery on it. Yummy!

My mom used to eat french fry sandwiches.

Salted our apples, watermelon but never our salad!

Pepper on cantelope
Peanut butter and sweet pickle sandwiches
Peanut butter and tomato sandwiches
Peanut butter and banana sandwiches (still a fave)

We also sometimes had cucumbers in our spaghetti sauce - I had no idea that most people didn't cook cucumbers until I made spaghetti sauce for my roommate in grad school. She just flipped out, and still teases me about the cucumbers in the sauce!

Once when my parents were experimenting with dehydrating food, they made dehydrated hot dogs. No adults could eat them - too gross - but my brother and I loved them and begged for more!

American Cheese slices and chili-garlic sauce...rolled up! Tasty! AND mayonnaise sandwiches...guess that isn't all that uncommon.

I loved to eat powdered milk, straight from the container...still do. My sister did it, too.

We also ate uncooked oats and honey. Just as a snack.

This is OT but what does half-adopted mean? I have never heard that phrase before.

Maybe her biological mother (or father) remarried and the OP was adopted by the spouse. That's my guess anyway. :confused3
