What did you do today to save money?

I also deleted the email from disneyshopping.com before I had a chance to fill up my "cart". :smooth:

I'm having a hard time with that one today, I keep filling up my cart, then closing the window before I checkout...I'd really like to get the Mickey duvet for my room...must resist!!

OH! and yesterday I confirmed the sale of my old computer to my DD sister for use to start her back to college.....more Disney money!!!

I just started logging on to the freebies link a while back and have been enjoying the mail ever since. I have been researching how to save money on groceries but as of yet have came up empty due to the fact that my kids are such picky eaters and hubby insists on meat. I also have been in search of coupons but as of yet come up empty, our local paper very rarely includes coupons so I don't see the benefit of purchasing the paper. Would like to know more about buying coupons on e-bay. I haven't seen that yet, will keep looking!

Something I have found useful is really shopping the ads. We are pretty lucky to have several major supermarkets in the area, so I can easily make a few shopping runs to catch different things on sale. Of course I don't do so if it's just one minor thing. Anyway, I try to plan my meals for the week around what's on sale. For example, if someone has a great sale on chicken, I will try to come up with several chicken dishes to have for that week. Certainly saves money!! Coupons are hit or miss, really. But I still check every week, and clip them whethere I think I'll use them or not.

I bought my texts before my semester started. My professor stated today that only one of the books listed is required.

I walked straight from class to the bookstore and got $85 back!

One more thing, my tickets for Rockstar Supernova tonight were free, courtesy of their publicist--no strings attached--as a thank you for being very accomodating during a difficult interview I did for an article I wrote on another of his artists, for which I was paid by the magazine I write for. :goodvibes

Also I got a free CD in the mail yesterday from a publicist/friend who was hoping I'd like it and write a positive review--which I'll get paid for if I do. My editor told me I need to get into the office this week because my mailbox there is overflowing with unsolicited material, although most of it will probably be craptacular. Last month's tally: 28 unsolicited CD's in my box, 23 saw the garbage can, two were given away to another writer, three were keepers. :sad2:

Cancelled my Curves membership saving $30 per month (now if I can just be diligent about walking the dog and doing my pilates video!!)

Bought powdered milk at W-Mart to use in all recipes instead of fresh

Used a $5 off of $15 purchse at PetSmart to get some supplies. Also found a Large breed Christmas toy for $1.50

Bought my last texbook (that half.com didn't have  ) at Off Campus. It was used and $5 cheaper than used at the campus bookstore.

After all those errands, resisted the urge to stop at the drive-through!

I stopped at the Dollar Tree to get my in laws a 35th anniverary gift. In my book I spent 99 cents too much.

Did NOT go to Taco Bell even though I went to town for errands and my DD13 is apparently having withdrawls.....we came home and ate lunch.

I contacted Rubbermaid last week via email regarding a cracked lid for a plastic container, they are guaranteed for life. After a reply and them requesting the model number info, they mailed me a coupon for 3.00 off any Rubbermaid item of my choice.

It pays to speak up......

I helped out at PS (a teacher sick) so I will get a little cash for those hours. :goodvibes I am subbing on Monday too, so between those 2 days it will take a good chunk out of next months tution.:goodvibes

I sat down and read both grocery stores ads, planned my shopping with BOGOF coupons and saved over $80 between both stores. (I haven't done that is a long while.) Now I just have to get to CVS this week.

I took my own water and lunch to work. Cooked dinner and ate at home.
I love this thread it is very motivating...every day I think about what I can do to save money. thanks for the tips...hopefully it will add up!

Well, I think this will save money in the long run. I typically buy 6 boxes of Eggo waffles (my commissary doesn't have generic) per month. I took advantage of the 19.98 Mickey waffle on the other thread. I know it will save me money to make my own, I'm thinking I'll make them on the weekend (I have a recipe that makes 12), then freeze them for the week. Does anyone else do this and do they taste okay like that?

:yay: I do this. I buy a huge bag of pancake mix from Costco and will make 40 waffles (or pancakes) at a time. What I usually do is place the waffles on a cooling rack after they are done and while I am making the rest to cool and dry them a little. Then, I place them on a cookie sheet (not touching each other) and if I have a lot I layer them with wax paper in between. I place the cookie sheet in my big freezer for a couple hours to sort of individually freeze them, then I stack them in a freezer ziplock bag, as many as will fit in there. By then, they won't stick to each other and are easier to take out individually later. We usually toast them like Eggos for the kids....but if I am running short on time on my way to work, I will heat it up in the micro for myself. The toaster makes them more crunchy which the kids like.

We haven't been in the stores this week at all. I bought produce on Saturday, and that's it. (DH had done the milk run on Friday). We're are eating strictly from the cupboards and freezer.

I cancelled my Curves membership in December when I hadn't gone in 2 months. Today, I brought a dynaband (free) home, and will add to my 30 minutes of floor exercises each day.

I've been making pancakes in batches, letting them cool then wrapping them individually in plastic wrap before putting them in a freezer bag and freezing. It lets me make a quick breakfast for one or both kids or lets dh give them breakfast for dinner real quick since I work late Mon-thursday. Matter of fact I will be going to pick up Aunt Jemima pancake mix 2 for $3 with a $1 off coupon tonite on my way home from work!
