So after a lot of debating and hemming and hawing, I signed up this morning to run the Marathon. This will be my first marathon (and probably last:scared:) but it is something on my bucket list to do. I have my training schedule, but that won't officially start till September. So from now until September it is time for me to get my butt in shape. I can't believe I just did this, but I am looking forward to it.

Good luck. I'll be doing my 11th DW marathon next January (29th overall).

Just remember. It's not the distance that gets you - it's the pace. You'll be swept up in the excitement at the start with all the energy of all the other runners. Even experienced marathoners go out too fast in a lot of races.

Stick to your goal pace, or even a little slower at the beginning. Enjoy the experience of running through the parks It's a special day. Don't be in a hurry to rush it for your first marathon.

Congratulation on signing up.

As far as what do you do now, the big question is what have you been doing the past couple of months? Over the summer, I would work up to where I could easily do the first couple of weeks of the training plan. That way you're starting out with stuff your comfortable with before moving into uncharted waters.

I train a martial art (brazilian jiu jitsu) 2-3 days a week. I started running again this week and plan to stick to it. I am alternating my runs with longer runs on even days and shorter runs on odd days. I can already run the farthest distance of the first week of training, so I am not worried about that. But I am going to use this time to improve my pace.

My goal is to run the marathon in under 4 hours which I know is about a 9:10 pace. Right now I am running at about a 9:30 pace so I am working to get back up to my 9 minute mile.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Congratulations and welcome to the crazy world of marathons! They are addictive. I said that I wanted to run a half for my 40th bday. The day I finished that, I said I needed to run a full. Instead of just planning a full, I said WTH, why not just do Goofy? So, I did this January. Now, I'm getting ready to start training for a 44 mile ultra. These races give you such a sense of personal accomplishment, you need to keep doing it! :thumbsup2

Good for you! I'm training for my first ever half marathon currently. I never really run before but I thought to myself "self, you need to do this" so now I'm doing it!

Good luck with your training! :cheer2:

Congrats! I did my first full at Disney last year. My only recommendation would be to start on a longer training plan since you are just starting up again. I would not wait till September to officially start. By September, I was already doing 10+ mile runs. I think my formal training plan started in late June.

I always wanted to do a marathon and I was sitting at the computer and just did it...last year was my first marathon and I did it at Disney. This year I am going back for the Goofy Challenge and I hope to make it to Disneyland in 2012 so I can get the coast-to-coast medal as well. I was not a runner before I decided to do this and I started in October (only 3 months before the race!!!) Good luck, I hope you have an awesome time:)
