What could we do about neighbors?

Hi,

Somewhat new here but we're having a bit of a problem with our new next door neighbors blocking our driveway. They somehow seem to think this is their personal parking space!

Any ideas on how to handle this?
We've asked nicely numerous times and that works for about two days every time.
We've even threatened to have their car towed but that only worked for about a week. They blocked our driveway again last night.

What else could we do?

The police dept. tow service closes at 9pm which does not help us much since my neighbors don't usually get back till after 11pm.

Any ideas on what to do?

put up orange cones.... that is so rude! Good Luck.

Park behing them so they can't move their car? I don't know if thats a good idea or not but I've seen my grandmother (87) do it countless times in "her" parking space at her apartment. Finally they put up a Handicap sign.

go park in front of their driveway.

Hey everyone Thanks for the replys:

The tow service actually told us to do the same thing (orange cones) but I really doubt that would work. Since the cones could easily be removed.

We can't get the car out of the garage when they blocking the driveway so parking behind them is out of the question:(

Actually DH is getting somewhere near there!

Honestly, we don't want to do anything illegal or out of place we just want our driveway unblocked and to be able to come and go as we please.

Anymore ideas?

We're desperate now.

Do you have an association to get through to them? Be careful! People can be completely nuts these days. I know a lady whose husband was arguing in their driveway with a neighbor for something similar. The lunatic neighbor sent his much younger girlfriend to get his gun. Long story short, this lady is a widow.

Can the police issue tickets even after they stop towing? There has to be some law about blocking people in. Even if there isn't, maybe the police would talk to them. That might help a little bit.

Good luck! I can't imagine how frustrating that must be.

Place some bricks (about 6 or so) in different spots where they usually park. My MIL's neighbor used to do this and it worked for her.

Good luck!

That is a great idea... get some cinderblocks put 2 sets on either side of the driveway and put two in the middle so you guys can get out but they can't park there.... VERY good idea Rita!

I'm going to speak to DH about the bricks/cinder block thing.
I'm a bit worried about that though.

Like Pin Wizard said what if these people aren't playing with a full deck and decide to throw it thru our windows or something worst which I don't even want to think about.

We have thought about calling our local police station but DH doubts they'll do anything about it.
However I do hope a ticket or two would work. We even have some digital pics of them blocking our driveway.

We do have a community service # that someone gave to us but it does not cover our area.

We have our regular community patrol in our area but they do not issue tickets for blocked driveways.
Help!

I have a feeling they will do it again tonight!

I know this sounds mean but you have already ask them not to park so drop some nails under their tires. and put a private drive sign up.

We have a similar issue with our neighbors, who constantly park in front of our house. We live on a "pipestem" driveway in a subdivision. Since the street is not of normal width like a public street, parking on it is forbidden by the covenants. My neighbors don't care. They have so much crap in their garage, they could never park in there. They have a driveway wide-enough for all 3 of their cars, but they never park accordingly. For example, the wife will come home and park in the MIDDLE of her driveway, so when the husband comes home, he can't pull in. He just parks in front of our house. Sometimes I do nasty things "by accident." Like a few times when I noticed him parked out there with the windows down and the sunroof open. I wandered outside, looked at my lawn and said to myself, "Wow, my lawn sure could use some watering!" I turned on the sprinkler, making sure it would hit his car, and went inside. Boy was he PO'd when he came out to a completely soaked car - inside and out. :p

Why can't you park in the spot in question-pre-emptively park-until they are trained to park elsewhere?

Isn't that illegal, and a ticketable offense? Call the police. Tell them it's a nightly occurance. If nothing else, the police will make some extra income from all the tickets they are writing.

I'm surprised the police can't help. Is this a public street or condo/apt complex? I would think they could be ticketed or towed since it does pose a problem in an emergency. What if you had to get to the ER?

I vote for calling the police. Tell them that you have ill family or something and need emergency access out of your driveway. Is there a local tow service you could call? The other option is to hit thier car! Do you have an old clunker you could scrafice for the cause. My brother used to have a 52 International Pickup with Cast Iron bumpers. Those bumpers would fix the problem!

I like lilboo's idea of pre-emptively parking
there yourself for a while to get them
parking somewhere else. Since Halloween
is coming, you could soap their windows
each time they park there!!! lol
Neighbor issues are messy. good luck

I would bring my pictures to the police and let them tell you how to handle it. We have become very friendly with one of our town police officers because of our neighbors. The Officer has had to talk to him several times about various things (that I won't get into:rolleyes: ), turns out he doesn't like the neighbor all that much either and he gave us some great advice!

I agree, you have to be very careful who your dealing with, even if they are your neighbors...you just never know what they are capable of!

Here's to neighbors like that:p

Good Luck!
