Another one that is like nails on a chalkboard for me is the euphemism "over the Rainbow bridge". Where did that even come from? When I first heard it I thought it referred to a destination for the LGBT crowd.Call a spade a spade. Your pet died. It is no more. It has ceased to be. It is bereft of life. It is an ex-pet. (insert your favourite Monte Python phrase here). It is no longer pining for the fjords.
Well, if you care, you could look it up. Had to put my dog down today. Insensitive people are the best![]()

Sorry Minnie Mum I usually agree with so much of what you post but NOT this one The Rainbow Bridge is not a saying It is a belief and one that many, including myself, find comfort in I have many pets waiting there for me
The fur babies, yes an expression...more like a term of endearment..I prefer Puppy Heads myself![]()

I can't stand it when someone says, "I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit", or some variation along those lines.
I'm sorry for your loss of your dog. I am aware that the phrase comes from the poem. Origins murky. And I have had pets and grieved for them when they died. However I don't believe in anthropomorphizing animals or treating pets as children. And while I realize that I will be flamed by many, I've never believed there is a heaven for animals. If you do, and it helps you through your grieving, then that is fine. Again, as per the title of this thread- it's a phrase I have a great dislike for.
I lost my mother a week ago. Sorry, but the passing of a pet just doesn't rank anywhere close, for me.
We had to put our 14 1/2 year old yellow lab down 2 1/2 weeks ago. He truly was our 1st baby and it was the most difficult thing I've ever had to do (even more difficult than seeing both of my parents buried.)
Cannot believe I am reading that! We lost our 15 yr. old cat 3 years ago and I miss her, but relates in NO WAY how much I miss my dad & mom. They 'are' animals after all, not humans.I'm sorry for your loss of your dog. I am aware that the phrase comes from the poem. Origins murky. And I have had pets and grieved for them when they died. I for one would NOT be in heaven if my animals and my relatives were not there

Why are we ranking grief?
Human or animal, it is personal and it is real
We cannot measure someone else's love or loss.
I am truly sorry for those who have lost someone they love.

Anywho. I heard it for the first time a couple of years ago when we got a new girl in the office.
There's also a girl in our office that calls everything "generic." I'm not even sure what she means by that!

So please don't belittle that which you don't know simply because your situation is different.
where you at?
