What common phrases do you hate?

"That's not in my swim lane." (Usually used at work to indicate that the task is not part of their normal job).

"Down and done." I've got two loads of laundry down and done. I don't overly mind the term but I hate it when someone uses it ALL THE TIME.

1. "Yummy". Just, no. For anything.
2. On Facebook when married/living together couples carry on a conversation so everyone can see...are you not in the SAME FREAKING HOUSE???
3. Also on Facebook when people go out and post a pic and say "Date Night"! Really???? It's just a dinner out. No need to give it a title.
4. Using "literally" wrong. That is the most overused word, and used incorrectly!!!!

My husband and I very rarely go out. "Date night" , when we have one, maybe two to four times a year, is very important to me. Sorry it bothers you, truly, but I don't understand why it does.

Btw, I do not like overuse of exclamation points. :)

I hate when people just say "Ave" instead of Avenue. A traffic reporter did that the other day and I wanted to call the radio station to complain LOL

Another one that drives me crazy is saying "vaycay" instead of vacation. Come on, it's just one extra syllable! :badpc:

Exactly. We take the family to dinner. Date nights through the years might be dinner, a movie, driving about, etc. lol, wondering what that poster considers a date that isn't really just something else.

Sorry, when you've been married quite a long time, no need to call it a "Date Night". You're out with your husband. We get it. No title needed. Maybe I'm just in a cranky mood and need a "Date Night" (aka, "hey, wanna go to dinner and see a movie?") with DH.

Um, isn't it just like all the rest of these posts about what irritates us? You happened to pick on MINE? Go have your Date Night, and have fun. I just chimed in what irritates me. Don't take it personally for goodness sakes!

!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate it when people put their children "down" for a nap. I put my children "in" as "in their beds" for a nap. When I hear someone put their child "down" I think of a sick animal euthanized to put it out of misery.

Exactly - I didn't mean for this to be personal for anyone. I probably slipped up when I used "hate" in the title when annoy would have been more appropriate.

Someone said they didn't like the terms helicopter mom or snowflake which I didn't get and still kind of don't get so I started this thread out of curiosity. I found it surprising that's all. Date night I don't care about one way or the other. I found a lot of things here that I say a lot of the time.

I hate when people write a sentence and start it out with "um". ;)

"Thing"

As in, "Pass me that thing over there." Or "Remember that thing I was talking about?"

I can't stand "thing". :headache:

I hope that you do at least have a little understanding for those of us senior citizens who genuinely don't remember the word, so that's why we have to resort to saying "That thing"-because we don't remember what "that thing"'s called. If not, please develop a little more patience.

Oh, I'm just as guilty over using the word thing, though I try not to.

And just because I can't stand the word doesn't mean I'm not tolerant of people who do use it.

As a pp mentioned, don't take these posts personally. :goodvibes

I don't like the word "sucks" to mean something is bad. I'll say "That stinks" instead.

Regardless of what a person has done, I can't stand the phrase "There's a special place in hell for people like that."

Oops! I use it on the 2013 Reading Challenge thread every time I finish a book and come closer to my goal. FWIW, I've read 96 of my 100 book challenge!

Haha! I hate when people say "that stinks".

I hate when a couple says "We're pregnant. " No, she is the one who is pregnant. They could have said we are having a baby or we are expecting.

I'm with you on that one. Whatya mean, "We're pregnant"? Are WE peeing every hour? Are WE getting backaches all the time? Are OUR feet swelling?

Guilty! I say that all the time!

Honestly I've never heard half these sayings and the other half I've only heard on the DIS!

:rotfl: :D I don't know why it gets under my skin so bad it just does. Maybe because I hear it a lot or I feel like saying "No, not really because I am a liar". ;)

At work, if we get a lot in off the truck [I work on target flow..] and one area has a lot of stuff, they say "softlines team got slammed today"
It makes me twitch when someone says that.

Referring to one's boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, etc as "my baby" or "babe" ugh.
