Are you a clear light or colored light person?

Do you use a different color outside than the one you use on the tree?

Do you use both inside?

I am a clear light person and my DH likes colored lights. We compromise by having clear outside and colored on the tree.

I always put an evergreen garland on my banister and a large wreath on the wall in my living room and this year after seeing all the lovely garlands over peoples doors in the other thread I'm adding those as well.

Here is my dilemma, I can't bring myself to put colored lights on them.:rotfl:

Do I go with clear and have two different types in my living room or would it clash too terribly?

Am I destined to have a sad unlit garland forever?

We have clear on the tree and will put colored outside. We have a battle every year because DH and the kids want colored on the tree. I always win.

My tree is multi-color for the first time in years. DH prefers mult-color and I am easy going. I prefer white but I love the tree no matter what so I don't mind making his enjoyment of the season better by giving him a colored light tree. Outside I have white AND multi-color.

We usually use clear everywhere but this year we put the C9 colored bulbs on the tree. I was going for the nostalgia look on the tree. It's kind of fun but I really needed to get a 10' White Pine to complete the look (what we always had growing up) :lmao:. I remember how those old bulbs smelled when they got really hot-these aren't quite the same :rotfl:.

Right, so I like single color lights and DH likes mixed. We compromised. We have purple and gold lights on the tree (so it's sort of mixed), and clear elsewhere.

We've never done outside lights on trees, but I have seen some homes that were just stunning with only blue lights on their trees..

The clear is pretty too - but it's becoming so overdone that most houses/trees all seem to blend in together..

Inside are multi-colored..

:santa:

I have to decorate the front and back of the house. (I am on the water and a holiday boat parade goes by - so I feel obligated to do the back too.)

I did the front with white lights. The back with colored and the tree with colored. You like white - stay in the front - colored go in the bag! Something for everyone.

After all the work putting up the lights - the thing that was most impactful took me about two minutes. I changed our sconces outside from white LED bulbs to red and green. The bulbs were about $4 and they made a huge difference. They look really cool.

There was a house near our old house that one year decided to put up all RED lights--on the house, trees, bushes, etc. It was BLINDING--like looking at a laser. The city made them turn them off because it was so dangerous.

We have three trees outside with white lights and two moving reindeer with white lights and a white candle in each window. Our artificial tree in the living room has white lights and our real tree in the den has multi-colored lights. I prefer white though. Growing up my Dad would only put up multi-colored lights (he still LOVES them). One year he put three rows of the blinking multi-colored ones around our front door. I felt like I was in a game show every time I came home.

Colored lights on the inside tree in the family room. White lights on my little tree in the kitchen and the garland on the banister.

White lights on the garland outside around the door and up the light post. That's all I have outside this year.

I like white lights in general, but we're using colored lights on the tree inside this year. I wanted something different, and the children like the colored lights. However, I also have a lighted garland on my mantel (in the same room as the tree) and those lights are white. I don't think it clashes. (I hope not, anyway! LOL)

All the lights visible from the street are white. I like the looks of that for us, although I do like the colored lights I see on other people's houses.

I love colored lights. They seem more festive to me. We used the multi colors strings on the tree inside and solid color strings on the outside. I think solid colors look better from a distance.

I really love colored lights and I think they look wonderful. However I use the clear ones for my tree. I think it gives it a "clean" look with the rest of my living room decor.

My mom uses colored lights though and I always think "WOW, I need to use colored ones too" But never do.

white outside!!!!

Inside: if I only had one tree it would be multi, but I also have a purple and gold tree (white lights) and a blue tree (blue lights).

A holiday boat parade? That must be beautiful to see! Lucky you!! :santa:

All red lights doesn't sound very appealing to me - although I can't honestly say I've ever seen the outside of a house decorated like that.. Just doesn't sound like it would be "pretty"..

My DH loves colored and I love white, so we compromised by doing both. The colored lights are steady, and the white lights twinkle. It looks so pretty, like the white lights are sparkles on the tree.

Outside we have both as well, but none blink - don't want the "game show" effect. ;)

White lights at our house.
We have a southwestern house so the colored lights look a bit silly on them. Inside we have all white too.

Now, here at my apartment we have colored up!
