We'll be taking an Alaskan cruise in June ( :cool1: ) and we're wondering what kind of clothes to bring?? It seems that people are in their winter coats with hats and gloves on the decks, but in June the weather is supposed to be 60 degrees? Should we just prepare for every type of weather? Our suitcase space is limited though so it's just a little confusing haha. Any help will be appreciated! :laundy:

Layers. The air temp may be in the 60's in June but it can be much cooler at night or when the ship is moving (and really cool when it is night AND the ship is moving!) We always bring a windbreaker/rain jacket for our top layer -- always be prepared for rain in Alaska.

Best advice is layering.

At some point during your trip ... it will rain ... it will feel cold ... it will feel warm ... and it may be all within minutes.

When you are out on deck the ship is moving and it will feel cooler than it really is. As soon as you go inside the ship, it will feel warmer. You will want to be able to layer up and layer down.

We went to a Columbia Sportswear outlet and picked up a fleece jacket and a waterproof jacket. No heavy coats. We also picked up a few long sleeve shirts at a Disney Outlet store.

On Tracy Arm day I wore a long sleeve t-shirt and then a polo shirt over it. Then I wore my fleece jacket and then my waterproof jacket over that. I brought a pair of thin gloves so I could still use my camera while wearing gloves. I was warm enough, even on the top decks. However, as soon as I went inside I could unzip my jackets and even take off my rain jacket.

On one excursion I didn't take my fleece but I did take my rain jacket. It was warm out, but there is almost always a threat of rain.

Layers work. You will likely find the best combination for you to be comfortable.

Lots of layers. A three-in-one jacket is a space saver. Consider Scotchguarding your tennis shoes or taking a waterproof pair of shoes in cases of rain or excursions to snowier areas. We cruised in late May, early June and the weather was beautiful. Not too cold nor rainy. I would pack a hat and gloves if you are planning outdoor excursions such as whale watching, glacier helicopter, etc. The majority of the time, the ship is kept quite warm. Tracy Arm day was very nice since you can go in and out as needed and the staff keep hot beverages on deck. There were days that were quite brisk and other days that were warm and spring-like. When we cruise to Alaska again, I would not pack half the things I did last time around.

We went in August last year. Tracy Arm day needed a winter coat or moderate weight coat with layers. It drizzled the entire time and just made it feel raw out. On Juneau day, we were told by one of the locals that it was one of the best 5 days of the year and we spent hours in the pool because it was near 70 out.

Concur....
if & when you go on excursions, make sure you havea backpack with clothes just incase or to take off your layers so you have somewhere to put them...

Have a GREAT Trip, this is our best trip!!....Enjoy

Layers! One day it can be warm here in the summer (well, warm for us) the next day can be cold and rainy! Very unpredictable weather. I would probably bring at least a waterproof jacket.

I agree with all the others on layers! Make sure your top layer is rain-proof. I brought a winter-weight parka, and never touched it. Layers (fleece under a light gore-tex jacket) was definitely the way to go. Hats or earmuffs, and gloves are also a good idea.

Wow thanks everyone so much!! Really appreciate all the tips, makes sense about the layers. I'm not used to the unpredictable weather, because as you can see I've only gone to Orlando for the past 12 or so years :rotfl: All I usually know is that it'll be 90 degrees so be prepared.

But the waterproof jacket sounds like a great idea. Probably going to pick up some under armour items. Can't wait for the trip!! :yay:

We dressed in layers.

Our fingertips and ears are the first to get cold, so we brought gloves and hats that covered our ears and has draw cords.
We got these hats, and they worked very well: North Face Windstopper Hat. Click on the reviews.
