What can you walk to from each resort?

Am not real familiar with WDW, planning our first trip there for later this year. At my home resort, GCV, I can walk to 2 gates and Downtown Disney. I'm trying to study the maps of WDW and they make everything look so close to eachother, even though I know they are not. Just curious, what can you (realistically) walk to from each resort? Can you walk to Animal Kingdom from AKV? Can you walk to Magic Kingdom from VWL? Thanks!

The ones that I know of for sure are MK from BLT and DTD from SSR. There are probably more but these are the ones I know for sure.

You can't walk to MK from VWL or to DAK from AKV.

You can walk to Epcot & DHS from both BWV & BCV.

Old Key West: Walk (long), bus or boat to Dowtown Disney. Bus to all parks.

BoardWalk: Walk or Boat to Epcot & Hollywood Studios. Bus to other destinations.

Beach Club: (Same as BW)

Wilderness Lodge: Boat or bus to Magic Kingdom. Bus to all other destinations.

Saratoga Springs: Walk, bus or boat to Downtown Disney. Bus to all parks.

Animal Kingdom Villas: Bus to all destinations.

Grand Floridian: Monorail to Magic Kingdom & Epcot. Bus to other destinations.

Bay Lake Tower: Monorail or walk to Magic Kingdom. Monorail to Epcot. Bus to all others.

OP: It's nothing like what you are used to at Disneyland. Beach Club is very close to Epcot and Bay Lake is close to Magic Kingdom. But those two are mostly comparable to VGC-to-Disneyland. Nothing compares to the short trip from VGC to DCA.

I'll also add that pretty much every resort has give-and-take in its transportation. For instance, Bay Lake Tower is a pretty easy walk to Magic Kingdom. But the monorail trip to Epcot requires two separate trains with a switch at the TTC. Its bus service to Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom is shared with another resort, and the trip is fairly long since that Magic Kingdom resort area is somewhat remote.

Point being, even if you have a relatively short walk/ride to 1 or 2 parks, chances are your trip to the other 2-3 will be longer. If you plan to visit the parks pretty equally, there's no great transportation benefit to a specific resort.

WDW isn't nearly as walking-friendly as DLR. Resorts and parks can be miles apart, and are connected by multi-lane highways. Sidewalks are rare.

From DVC resorts, your walking options are:

BLT to MK (also monorail service, catch the monorail in the CR tower)

BCV to Epcot and DHS (also boat service)

BWV to Epcot and DHS (also boat service)

SSR to DTD (also boat service)

OKW to DTD (also boat service)

AKV to AK is not walkable, there's bus service between the resort and the park.

VWL has boat and bus service to MK.

From BW, you can also walk to Fantasia mini golf. We just recently found this during our May trip.

Two everybody missed:
OKW to SSR
I've done it. There is a nature trail.
Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness
I've done it. There is a nature trail with a map available at the Concierge desk.

You can also walk from the Grand Floridian to the Polynesian, and from the Polynesian to the Transportation and Ticket Center. :)

From what resorts can you walk to the waterparks?

Typhoon Lagoon is closest to OKW but I wouldn't try to walk it. Very busy road and intersection and I don't really think there are sidewalks anyway. It is not recommended that you walk in the grass as there are snakes and other critters you may run across.

Blizzard Beach is fairly close to Coronado Springs (not a DVC resort) but I wouldn't walk that either.

Bus service isn't bad, use it. :)
