What can I say or do?

What to do, what to do?

  • Don't worry about it.

  • Keep telling her until she gets it right.

  • Something else.

My DH has a first name as a last name and his name gets inverted often. (not so much for me since I'm a girl and the last name is a boy name.)

But he's used to it and the conversation flows.

If we are together, we give each other a little grin. We know that know harm is meant and the mistake is common enough that it is just now an inside joke.

It's funny when the person realizes--and we let them know that we truly do not mind.

We've had people known us for years do this inadvertently.

People who want to remember will, people who want to but have difficulty will often warn you and some folks just can't be bothered to remember the correct name.

Correcting her hasn't worked thus far, so I'm okay with joking with her at this point and calling her by a different name.

In your best Cheech & Chong voice say "Dave's not here.";)

Hey Dave, ( ;) )

Maybe one day, she'll get a piece of YOUR mail, and it will read "Chuck Deuce", and she'll bring it over to you and say, "Hey Dave, got this mail addressed to you, only it is for a Chuck! I wonder who Chuck is?" And you can FINALLY say, "Me!"

True story, this happened to me! :rotfl:

Send her a Christmas card with your correct names on it.

We have "new" neighbors, right next to us... but not real new.. They have been there about 14 months. We rarely see them, but when we do, we wave to each other or sometimes say "hello". And earlier this year we had them over for our annual pig roast.

So here is the "problem".... The woman absolutely can NOT remember my name. No less than 4x I have told her that my name is not Dave, but Chuck. Today she is out cutting her grass, and I am helping my daughter learn to rollerblade, and once again, she waves, with a "Hey Dave, how ya doing?"

Just let it go? Or keep telling her until she gets it?

Today I just waved, and went back to my daughter.

EDIT, BTW, my wife, only half kidding, says I should call her "Sue", though her name is Liz.

:goodvibes I sympathize with you. My DH is horrible at remembering names. I swear, he makes them up! He can barely remember MY name. But then, he has dyslexia and I think that's the reason. He's a bright guy and a very good husband and father. I guess he'll go to his grave calling my sisters all the wrong names and forgetting the nieces and nephews names.

I think I'd just keep telling her your name, but don't be surprised if she never gets it. SHe has her brain programmed now for "Dave". You might just want to be "Dave" when you're around her. She could call you worse things, ya know.

I would just keep reminding her what your name is :)

My husband is HORRIBLE at remembering names. What he does do is make up little names for all the people in the neighborhood and that is what he refers to them as. For example the guy next door (real name Mike) he calls Dave....because he has a Dave Matthew's Band sticker on his van and listens to their music a lot. The guy on the other side he calls Chris (real name Brian) because he always wears a red shirt and reminds him of Kris Kringle and the guy across the Street is Joe because he always is carrying a coffee mug (real name Peter). Oh, and he also has a lady he consistently refers to as the Crazy Cat Woman at work because she corners him in the lunch room to ask about our cats all the time (real name Sharon). I have to catch myself many times to not refer to them with the wrong names.....

We call our crazy next door neighbor Fat Boy. He's a big & tall guy who drives a little bitty convertible. And he's obnoxious. so Fat Boy, it is.

I think to her you may forever be, Dave.

Last month I was invited to a bridal shower. The invitation was addressed to my correct first name but my last name was my email address. My email is a combo of first and last name but neither name is complete. My husband thought it was hysterical. I figured it was just a mistake. I have known this friend/neighbor for 9 years.

Last week I mention the invitation wrong name thing...dead silence. I said, Kathy, you know my last name right? Apparently she doesn't! I said what does your caller ID come up every time I call you? She said, I didn't know that name! The best part was when she told me I should have my last name as my email like everyone else does! Really? Oh man did I laugh.

I have issues with peoples first names and if I didn't repeat it a few times when first introduced, I decide a name on my own and unfortunately sometimes it sticks. I do try and apologize. :flower3:
