What can anyone tell me about the Poly

I know all the info from the brochures but does anyone have any advice re which building, transportation to the parks or specifically DD, rooms good places to watch the fireworks or sit and enjoy the pool but in shade (2 red heads=sun bathing not recommended). It's just me and my DH looking forward to some fun times and going Disney mad

Where do I start? We love the Polynesian - everything about it is perfect for us - the location, the rooms, the setting, theming - wonderful

Which room type have you reserved? For Garden View rooms I have heard that Fiji is nice as many of the rooms have wonderful marina views (and views towards the castle to the left). For Lagoon View rooms our personal favourite longhouse is Tahiti. It is the furthest from the Great Ceremonial House (the lobby) but the rooms are bigger, there are double sinks in the bathroom, and the beach is extremely private and quiet down this end of the resort. The rooms are literally right on the beach and there is no path between them. There are truly wonderful views of Cinderella's Castle and WISHES as well. Tahiti is also under 5 minutes from the Ticket & Transport Centre where you can catch the express monorail to the MK or the EPCOT monorail.

One of the best things about the Polynesian is the excelllent transport links to the parks.

Magic Kingdom - Boat from Marina, Monorail from GCH or Monorail from TTC.
EPCOT - Monorail from TTC.
MGM/AK/Water Parks - Disney Bus or use a hire car if you have one.

The Polynesian Resort buses are very reliable and frequent.

The best place to watch WISHES from is either the beach in front of Hawaii or further along near Sunset Pointe. There are wonderful views from the swimming pool as well.

Beside the swimming pool there are numerous tables and chairs with parasols which provide shade. On the beach there are just sun loungers, but beside the pool bar are more tables with parasols.

You chose the right resort - you will have a wonderful trip Let me know if you have any other questions.

We are staying at the Poly for the first time in April so I can't answer your questions but I have got a lot of info from this great site

Tikkiman who does it, posts a lot on the resorts board and his site is full of great info on the poly including a full description of each longhouse.

I am sure you will have a great time, we are really looking forward to our stay there.

Another Poly lover!! It feels so peaceful- a resort where you can really relax and enjoy some tropical livin'! We've booked to visit this coming August, and I can't wait. There's just something about lying in a hammock on the Poly beach (which feel far more secluded than at GF and BC)- aaahh.. While being family friendly, it shouldn't be underestimated as a romantic location- what with all the torches lit at night, there is plenty of seclusion to be found.

I can't be this overexcited when it's still over 6 months away!!

The grounds do have a lovely tropical feel but I must admit that when we stayed there we weren't keen. We much preferred the GF where we were looked after a lot better and standards were higher. We didn't think much of the restaurants either. GF for us every time.

Each to their own but we much prefer the Polynesian. Their concierge service is (IMO) a million times better than RPC at the GF. The CMs have always been extremely accommodating (concierge or not).

The real benefit of the Polynesian is the views from the LV rooms. The castle is directly in front of you, along with a white sand beach. Very few (if any) GF rooms have views which compare with The Polynesian's LV rooms.

Also, the newly rennovated rooms at The Polynesian are fanatastic. They have a beautiful new decor with plasma televisions and new patios. The GF rooms were last renovated in 2000!

I agree that there is a slight lack of fine dining at The Polynesian - but it is on the monorail and it takes just minutes to get to the GF or CR for a whole abundance of alternative restaurants. There is also a short walkway to the GF for easy access to its amenities.

Everyone will have a different experience and opinion but considering the facts, the Polynesian offers the largest (and now newest) standard rooms on Disney property and the most transportation options. The CMs at The Polynesian also have to be especially selected and sent on an extra training course in customer service and polynesian values. It has the largest % of original CMs anywhere on WDW property.

As you say, we're all different which makes life interesting. We found the CM's at The Poly rather surly, unhelpful and many actually made us feel unwelcome.

I think we did the right thing by adding the Poly to the end of our holiday.

Cocinelle, we are there from the 9th to the 19th so maybe we'll see you swinging in those hammocks.

Dh and I were there this past December. We started off at the coast and our last week in Orlando was split between AKL ( our absolute favourite ) and Poly. We stayed in Samoa, 3rd floor and had the most fantastic view of the pool and across the lagoon to the GF and the wedding pavilion. We could also see Thunder Mountain and the Castle at MK. I've always wanted to stay there and was not disappointed. The theming was lovely and we had a great stroll round to GF and spent an hour or so having a good nose round!! We liked the fact that we could have the choice of transport and loved the monorail. We had breakfast at Kona Cafe, where i had to have the Tonga toast and succeeded in feeling sick for the rest of the day!!! It was fab tho - maybe just share it next time!!

We would go back again - hopefully with a family, but it is a lot of money per night and so we still prefer AKL.

Liked Tahiti due to convenience for epcot monorail and bigger rooms when doing garden view. Did lagoon view december and managed to get concierge - this was an excellent location for the pool and the views were outstanding - would definitely do this if stayed at poly again (have dvc membership so won't stay to often). Have also heard great things about fiji
