what camera to take?

i've been pondering this for a bit...DSLR or smaller digital? My dslr will take great pics but is bulky and can't be "whipped" out very fast, and i'm not sure i like the idea of carrying it on my neck the whole time, but then, i want great pictures (photography and scrap-aholic here ) My smaller digital isn't bad, but won't take those great shots that i know are going to happen. what have you guys done? Do you take both? Do your dh's complain about all the equipment being dragged out? I would also love to borrow my sis's digicamcorder...Am i going overboard? be honest. I want to have fun and enjoy and take pictures (i love it ) but i don't want to haul around too much stuff or annoy the crap out of DH.

any suggestions...experiences?

We took our small digital on our first trip. It was old and crappy. Took terrible pics. I was sooooo upset that we didn't have good pics. Before our trip in May we purchase a DSLR. We took it and it was great. It is bulky and kind of a pain to haul around but I knew I would get good pics and I did. If I had a good smaller digital camera, I'd probably take it. So much easier. But, we don't have both so take the big one.

We have also lugged the digicamcorder. Not something I plan on doing again. We just never actually dig it out and use it so we lug it around all day and get 20 seconds of film. Not worth it!!! If you are going to take one, I'd take it one day and leave it at the hotel the rest.

On our last years trip we bought a very small digicamcorder and my DH
was able to record all of the parades and fireworks and Fantasmic.
That was our best souvenier we could have ever got.
My DH brought along a Monopod (which attatches to the bottom of the
digicamcorder). A Monopod is like a Tripod but with only one arm.
The Monopod is Collapsible to be stored but it can also
be extended, which was why he was able to film over everybodys heads
and get very clear view of the parades with nothing blocking.
Monopod also is great for your arm because it rest on the ground
and you do not need to keep your arm up to film.
We were able to show all of our friends and Family out Trip to WDW and they loved it and were not Bored.

Going thru the same discussions here. My wife has a Canon 20d with 17-85 f/4-5.6 lens we took on our last trip and we loved the pics. Now going back 13 months after the last trip we are trying to decide.....SLR or the camera I can fit in my pocket. We will probably end up with the SLR.

If this is your first trip with the kids (or first one in a long time) I would go with your better camera, you will probably wished you had if you didn't.

I'm a photographer and have a DSLR set-up, but when we went to the parks I brought my P&S Panasonic Lumix in with me instead of the DSLR. For most pics we used the Photopass photogs. Their pictures were usually pretty good and we could get the whole family in the pic. Even if I brought my equipment into the park I wouldn't have brought a tripod for night shots or a flash for daytime fill-flash either. Better to travel light and be able to stick a small P&S in your pocket when you go on rides. I got some great pics with the Lumix. I've always been of the opinion that it's the photographer that takes the pictures and not the camera. The camera is just equipment.
