What camera gear would you buy for a disney cruise and wdw trip with a $10k budget?

I am going on a disney cruise then staying at wdw for 6 days. There will be 12 of us am I will be the only cameraman. If you had a $10k budget what would you bring and why to cover portraits, group shots, cruise shots, landscape.

I was thinking canon 5d mark iii
Lenses: 24-70 f4 is, 24-70 2.8 ii, sigma 35mm, 70-300L
Speedlite 600ex

Canon 6d with new sigma 50mm 1.4

Or

Look into sony alpha 7 with 24-70 f4 and 70-200 f4
Whichever flash and 55 1.8 prime
Lots of batteries.

I want to carry less gear and have full frame iq and high quality glass. Just not sure if there is a real weight savings with the sony and if its worth all that extra money for 1st gen tech. Ideally the 70d and a 18-200 would be nice but once you shoot full frame its hard to be happy with apsc.

What are your thoughts?

I would take some or all of the following:

the SONY RX100 for a P&S with nice video as well.
The SONY RX10 for wonderful video and nice zoom capability.

Ricoh GR for 28mm wide.
Olympus EM-1 with excellent kit lens and then a panny long zoom to handle telephoto. Also excellent at video and could replace the SONY RX10. Also all weather with the kit lens (Shower with it).

Sony A7r with 35mm and 55mm lens.

Is this a hypothetical, or are you really starting out with nothing?

If you don't have anything to begin with, jumping right into full frame is serious overkill, even if money is no issue.

This is some of both. Basically I have the gear listed and more but was considering what else was out there since this involves the cruise and a lot more family are coming. I was thinking of the sony alpha 7 but thought the jpeg colors were off and LR 5.3 was not out yet. Also on that MLC the size advantage was lost when I added a flash and the 28-70 variable aperature lens. Final thought was 300 shots per charge for me at WDW would not work.

So just if you would buy different lenses or a whole new system.. What would you spend $10k on for just body and lenses?

Having tried the A7, I wouldn't really choose it unless it was mainly a landscape camera and I was going for mainly manual glass. The native lenses negate the size advantage and legacy wide lenses have color shift and smearing on the edges. I would wait for the next generation which with Sony will be about 6 months.

I would go the Canon route if weight was no object. I've used both FF and crop and can say most of the time the FF advantage is negligible.

If weight is an issue, I'd just take the 5Dmk3, 24-70 2.8, and flash.

I had a preorder for the Sony, but the lens lineup plus first generation tech caused me to cancel the preorder. The difference might be that money is an issue for me, and I didn't want to blow it on a camera--even one that looks great--that I felt would be quickly surpassed by its second gen.

That was going to be my suggestion. Wish I had that budget!
Micro 4/3 handles the weight issue and has a more extensive lens lineup.
We just returned from the Fantasy, my sister in law complained about the weight of her Canon 60D all week.

Since switching to full frame I find myself needing MORE lenses, not less.

I love my 6D. If I had a $10K budget I would get it and fill my bag with L series lenses (which is what I've done over the past 18 months :)). But we all have different needs. The 6D is great for portraits, landscape, groups, etc. Where it falls short is fast action... the AF isn't quite up to the task of shooting things like Nascar and MLB without doing a whole lot of anticipating the shot and pre focusing in the area. However, it's more than sufficient for slower action like dance, which is what I shoot.

One thing to consider is swimming/snorkeling/beach/water rides (Only two serious water rides in the parks).

For this you might like one of the following:
Nikon 1 AW1 (good for underwater)
Olympus TG-2 (good for underwater)
SONY TX-30 (Good for rain, splashes/water rides).

I think along with a water camera and a P&S such as the Sony RX100. I would take just:

canon 5d mark iii 24-70 2.8 ii, 70-300L, Speedlite 600ex

And if you are willing to leave it in the room:

The canon 6d with sigma 35mm..

The 6D would be a back up camera and a lighter option when paired with the 35mm...

I would probably be tempted to take the Olympus E-M1 or the a7R with 35mmm lens as a nice light weight option instead of the 6D. But that is just me wanting to go light. the image stabilization on the EM-1 is very nice as is the viewfinder...

If you already have those two very nice cameras I would perhaps go with them and the RX100 and possibly the water camera.

I took my 5dmkiii with 24-105 f4, 85 f1.8 and 50 f1.4. And 580ex. This was a decent kit but it would have been nice if I had a 24 or 35 1.4 for indoor shots with characters and shots with my wife and son.

If I had the money to burn, I would have bought and taken a 24-70 f2.8, 35 f1.4, 50 f1.2 and 85 f1.2. Also a new 600ex.

That should cover the range you need. I contemplated taking my 70-200 2.8 is but the added weight wasn't worth it and I really didn't miss it.

I find the AF great on my 6D when shooting with L Lenses. I would agree on getting the 6D over the 5DMKIII. It outperforms in sooo many areas. The 6D is a fantastic Full-Frame body.

This review pretty much sums up most of what is great about the 6D and gives a comparison to the 5DMkIII

I'd still be tempted to rent the Sony A7 just to check out a mirror-less full frame model that can use Canon lens. Supposedly the pics look (if the subject is not moving)

I took my 5d3, 24-70 2.8 ii, sigma 35mm 1.4, 40mm pancake, 70-300l ( for lma) and left a 24-105 in the room.

Now i have 2 x 5d3's
24-70 ii 2.8
35mm 1.4
85mm 1.2
100mm 2.8l macro
70-200 2.8 ii
40mm 2.8
3x 600 ex

And getting 70-300l, 24-70 f4l is, sigma 50mm 1.4 art and possibly a 6d for a lighter ff body.

So my question was were to spend my $10k budget since all my current gear is too much to bring. Also i am going to be photographing a larger group. 8 adults and 4 kids. I know a lot of posts are entry level rebel's and alpha, nikons but i want to bring the best. I would bring a 1dx if i felt I could bear the weight.

I see the 6d as a good travel and landscape camera. I personally love the 5d af modes, joystick to quickly move af points, lcd is gapless and higher quality compared to 6d. Finally while heavier the dual card slots rocks at wdw since a couple 32gb cards goes a long way. Also the hdr/multi-shot exp leaves raw's not jpg which is big to me. In the end the 85 1.2 feels unbalanced on the 6d to me.

I am considering it for this trip only.

I had the same concerns about first gen and sony. They seem to get it right near gen 2 if they don't abandon it. Look how long the nex has been out and how few native lenses there are.

I would skip bringing the 85 1.2L and would much prefer the 100 macro (IS Version). because it has IS and will be better to hold. This is also one amazing lens.

Canon 5D Mark III with 24-70 f/2.8L II and a Nikon D800 with 14-24 f/2.8

Go full frame, you will end up with one anyway.

Really Right Stuff TVC-33 tripod with BH-55 ballhead.

You will never really need another lens unless you want some serious close ups of wild animals. This will also keep you from having to swap lenses and getting your sensor dirty.

That will pretty much eat up your $10K after tripod plates, extra batteries and camera bag.

The AF and lack of 100% coverage view finder gave me pause when it came to getting the 6D over the 5D3, but after using both side by side the 6D just felt better in my hands. Something I think is totally a personal preference thing. I don't miss the extra AF oomph although a second card slot would be nice sometimes. You obviously already have a preference for the 5D3 so I'd stick with that. You'll be wishing you had otherwise.
