what bit me last week while at WDW????

My vote is for a local culprit. The vicious Yellow Fly. Some people react differently to the bite than others. Sometimes a bite is hardly felt and other times it feels like a needle stuck you. I would guess they got worse if you scratched them. They itch when healing. Use cortisone cream to slow the itching. Then give them time to heal.

OMG! I was at Disney last week and have the EXACT same thing!!!!!!

I have about five bites on my right leg and they sound just like yours, with a red welt ring and an itchy "pimple" in the middle. I'll go a day and not notice the itch and then the next day they drive me nuts. I also thought it was weird I didn't have the bites anywhere but on my right leg. Not on my arms or torso, ect...

I knew it wasn't love bugs and all I could think of was being at the pool at the resort one night and I kept brushing away a small black fly looking thing that I thought sort of pinched a little, but didn't really hurt, when it landed on me. I'm not sure though, because I swear it landed on my arm once or twice and I have no bites on my arm.

I have two bites on my calf, one right at the back of my knee at the bend, one on the upper inside of my thigh and one right at the front top of my foot right where the ankle starts.

Very strange.

We were in WDW 2 weeks ago and I had a terrible time with bug bites. I know they occurred on our balcony at AKL and although I didn't actually feel the bites, the itching afterwards was terrible. I had over twenty spots on one leg! I always thought they were no-seeums, although I had never had trouble with them in previous trips. They itched like crazy, but only sporadically.

Did you know when you were bitten? Or did you just discover it when the bites started itching? Fire ant bites do itch, but those things hurt like the dickens when they bite! It burns more like a sting, hence the name "fire" ants, I guess. Their bites will blister up & have a white center. They will also hurt like a bee sting, in addition to some itching. Trust me. I've had quite a few fire ant bites in my life time! There's nothing like stepping into a bed & being instantly covered!

I agree with this. Not sure what bit you (obviously something that flies), but no way was it fire ants!

OP, your bites are probably from no-see-ums. DD and I went to Epcot last weekend and we both have several bites that we didn't have prior to our visit. They no-see-ums are out in force right now.

Thanks so much everyone for all of the suggestions and replies. After doing a little more research online, I think these must be "no-see-um" bites. They don't look like the bites in the pictures of the fire ants. I read a description of the bites of the no-see-ums and that sounds exactly right. I think I might've gotten them the night we were at Epcot, last Friday night, it was EMH and we were there until midnight. I'm fairly sure that that's the night I got bit.

I figured it had to be a flying insect because I never sat on the ground at all.

Thanks again, all :) And to those who have bites, too, I hope you feel better soon! :)

I don't remember my fire ant bites ever itching after the first day. They do seem to last forever. Like small white heads.

I had a bad experience with chiggers a couple years back after visiting the Animal Kingdom. I about went crazy scratching and itching.

They are not fire ants. They are the no-see-ums. I get the bites every time I go. They itch like crazy and I have had scars on my legs for up to six months after I get back. They seem to really like me and no one else in my group:upsidedow I haven't figured out anything to prevent them yet!

There are so many different types of biting bugs that it could be anything. I'd put just generic topical med's on it and if it doesn't stop after a week or so then go to the doc's.

This gets my vote. They were just coming out when we were there last week and I got bit a couple of times. Everyone reacts differently. Mine just itch for a few minutes and then nothing else, but I have had friends (and a child) who swell up and the itching lasts a lot longer.

Does bug spray work against any of these critters? I know that WDW is pretty vigilant about spraying for mosquitos... but I really don't want to deal with cranky itchy little girls if I can avoid it.

I was in FL 4/28 - 5/6 and during that time I got bitten quite a few times. Never saw any bugs, could've been mosquitoes or any number of bugs. Scratching alot may prolong the bite marks. I had to buy hydrocortisone cream at the Swan, those bites were ugly, just as you describe them. They've finally healed.

Thanks for posting this - we were there May 5-11 and I have about 10 bites on my legs and arms and couldnt figure out what they were as I never felt I was getting bit! Itched like crazy and they are just starting to go away

When I was in Miami, I was bit by what looked like a fat black mosquito  . I had 4 bites total on my right arm... and they swelled up like crazy!!! My DMIL is a nurse and told me to lightly wet a BLACK tea bag and hold it on the area for 20min. This sucked out the venom and made the swelling go down. Before that I tried anti-histimine cream, ice, anything I could think of, but nothing worked like the tea. Any time I get a bug bite now, I slap on a damp black tea bag (green/herbal tea don't work as well) and I'm all better in 20ish minutes! I never go on vacation without my black tea bags now. I bought a box to keep in my medicine cabinet lol :thumbsup2 .

My vote is for noseeums... I got bit by them a couple years ago and I swear they lasted for about 3 week... They were on my lower legs and the itching would come and go... Drove me nuts....

DH was bitten by a yellow fly at MGM and he still had a bump on his leg months after it happened. He felt it bite him and he swatted it, but he said it didn't squish when he smacked it!

I think you would definitely notice fire ants, and you would almost have to step in a mound of them.

Chiggers are in the grass and burrow under your skin, typically where you have elastic. I never sit in the grass because chigger bites swell up HUGE on me. But if you paint the bite with nail polish the chigger will suffocate.;)
