What are good foods to eat at Dsineyland? What is the name of the diner/ food place and where is it?

There are lots of yummy ones. I will list a few for DL.
A favorite on these boards seems to be Blue Bayou. It is in New Orleans Square (NOS). That is the restuarant inside the POTC ride. My personal fav is Plaza Inn on Main St. Very good food, large portions, decent prices. One of the best deals in the park IMHO. Red Rockets Pizza Port in Tomorrowland is also a great deal. Carnation Cafe on Main St. has excellant breakfasts and lunch/dinner. If you are lucky, you can meet Oscar there, a legendary chef at DL. I also really love Riverbelle Terrace, but for breakfast only. Walt used to eat breakfast there every Sunday. I hear good things about Cafe Orleans, but I have not been myself. It is also in NOS. Lots of people like Hungry Bear restuarant, I dont care for it all that much. It is Critter Country. I also enjoy Rancho del Zocalo, mexican food in Frontierland.

In DCA, Wine Country Trattoria gets great reveiews, I have never been, but it is on my list this next trip for lunch. Alot of people also like Pacific Wharf Cafe and Taste Pilots Grill. Taste Pilots is a buger place that also has ribs/chicken sandwichs. Pacific Wharf Cafe serves many things in a fresh sourdough bread bowl (yummy!!).

HTH!!

Welcome! :)

My favorite is White Water Snacks. Use the CA exit to the GCH, turn left and there it is. Everytime we went it wasn't crowded. My favorite was the Chicken Sandwhich with guacamole. Lots of food for a decent price.

Also, if you look a few pages back, I think there is a large thread with lots of food ideas. Although, I know it can be hard to wade through a large thread sometimes. Still, it is worth a look.

Love the plaza inn's fried chicken. It could be that I only let myself eat fried chicken when I'm splurging at Disney, but I don't think so. ;)

I echo the sentiments about the Carnation Cafe, Plaza Inn, Wine Country Trattoria and River Belle Terrace. I also like the chicken skewers at Bengal Barbecue in Adventureland. I like the yummy BUFFET in Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel. I like the pastries and coffee drinks in the Blue Ribbon Bakery on Main Street, next to Carnation. I like the Italian food/pizza at Naples Ristorante in Downtown Disney. Rain Forest Cafe in Downtown Disney is good for atmospehere and big portions.

Oh, and the fruit is wonderful in the parks and resort hotels. Wherever you see pineapple spears or melon, in the carts or in the restaurants, it is as tasty as you can imagine!

I would have to agree and say the Blue Bayou!!! They have really good short ribs :cool1: Also I would say if you want a cool and refreshing snack head over to the entrance of Adventureland and there is a food vendor right next to the tiki room. There they have Dolewhips! (Pineapple Ice Cream) or a dole whip float (Pineapple Ice Cream in Pineapple juice) VERY REFRESHING! :)

Sherry and I definitely agree on the fruit! If anything, it's tastiER than you could imagine!

I didn't try it b/c I wasn't in the mood, but I got hubby a box of mango slices with a lime wedge...he loves mango and wasn't sure about the lime, but once he did he was amazed. Said it made the mango taste better than mango has ever been (and he's lived all over Asia and has had some serious mango).

I personally love the vegetarian Gumbo at Royal Street Veranda in New Orleans Square in Disneyland, and the vegetarian chili at Pacific Wharf Cafe in DCA. They are both served in sourdough breadbowls. :)

WhiteWater Snacks is definitely good. Their breakfast burrito, without the meat for us, was scrumptious. I was supposed to share, but I only gave hubby a tiny bite and scarfed the rest. Couldn't give it up. The salsa or pico de gallo (forget what they called it) that went with the burrito was incredible. So fresh!

I love the bread bowls especially at Royal Street Veranda. I love the apple fritters there too. They use to also sell a fruit punch that was refreshing but don't sell the fruit punch anymore.

The kids love the tiki room pineapple ice cream! We finally found a place near our house that sells the same tasting dole pineapple ice cream but without the special disney touch!

My dh is a pure cave man with the turkey legs. He actually asked around to locate the turkey legs, it is really funny watching him eat it. Always have to have the baby wipes on hand when he is done.

DOLE WHIP! In front of the tiki room!
I second the veggie gumbo!
And Brenan Jazz Kitchen is great in Downtown disney!

What kind of food is in that buffet, Sherry? :)

You mean at Goofy's Kitchen? I have had the breakfast buffet more than the dinner one, so I am not qualified to tell anyone what is at the dinner buffet these days. But breakfast - Oh, wow, they have a pretty wide assortment of things. There are P, B & J pizzas for the kids. Dirt and worms for the kids. The eggs and bacon are scrumptious. As previously stated, the fruit is amazing. Their potatoes are outstanding. They have Mickey waffles and I think pancakes, as well. They have a delectible array of pastries, rolls, muffins, etc. My friends LOVE the croissants and the biscuits and gravy. There is all kinds of sausage and ham, too. They have lox and bagels. It is all great. I think they have French Toast too. Pretty much anything you could want for breakfast is there, and a little extra!

The only thing that is not too great is the birthday cupcake which they will bring you only if they know it is your birthday. Those cupcakes are dark chocolate (and not everyone likes dark) but they also are hard, like they have been sitting in a cupboard for a year. Not great.

I must make a mental note to try the almost-frozen grapes, strawberries and mango next time!!!:) Also, I have heard so many good things about WhiteWater Snacks on this board that I MUST eat there once in October. If they are as good as you all say they are, they are definitely an undiscovered treasure by many in the parks, I think. I can't wait to try them.

Does the whitewater snacks still have the cup that you can refill? I can't remember if it was a free refill or 99 cents or so. It was a few years back and I remember staying at the Grand California hotel and that was the only good thing there was the whitewater snacks and the refill soda.

Thanks, Sherry. Sounds good! :thumbsup2

I don't think they have refills at WWS, but I could be wrong. :confused3 We didn't get soda there. One time DH had a beer, boys had choc. milk, and I had a juice box. The next time we all just got cups for ice water out of the soda fountain.

You know, I just thought of a question I had for all of you knowledgeable Disney folks. I have not been to the Blue Bayou in PROBABLY about 30 years! Isn't that amazing? I feel as old as Methuseleh. Anyway, when we go back to DLR in October, one of my friends who has never eaten there at all before expressed an interest in wanting to go, but we are both well aware of how pricey it is. I suggested that we do what we did last year at Carnation Cafe - just go in and have a 'dessert meal,' and order a few items to share. That way, we will be spending less money than we would be if we were ordering entrees but still getting the BB ambience. After I suggested it, I was wondering if BB would let us do that. I can't see why not. Money is money and as long as we order a couple of dessert things, it should be okay, right? Does anyone know if that is okay? I would be shocked if it is not acceptable!

Sherry, I have seen people on here say they were going to do BB for only dessert. I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue. We may even do that. Their menu doesn't look that great, but I'm dying to try the boat dessert. I love the monte cristo, but I can get it for less at Cafe New Orleans.

Carnation Cafe was one of our favorites for breakfast. I've never had lunch there, but it looks delicious. The breadbowls in CA are also good. I sort of remember getting one on our very first trip, but it's been so long ago. Of course you must get the Dole Whip from outside the Tiki Room. I even remember having those on my very first trip to DW in the 80s! Stay away from Hungry Bear restaurant. The food is horrible. Bengal bbq is delicious.

Thanks, Heather! I thought it seemed like it would be an okay idea to just do dessert at BB, but I wanted to be sure before I show up there and they kick me out for just ordering a brownie boat or something! As you say, their menu does not look that great to me, either. It would look a lot better if the entrees cost $8.00 rather than $28 or whatever!!! And, like you, I am dying to try that boat dessert too, which looks like it could feed a small army. Throw in a couple of drinks or coffees and maybe an extra dessert just to make it look like more than one person is ordering something, and that should be okay. In fact, they should like us to do that because we would be done much quicker, freeing up the table for someone else! So I think that is a good way to get the ambience of Blue Bayou without the big bill at the end of the meal!

My faves at DL:
Little Red Wagon- corndogs
Bengal BBQ- chicken skewers
Plaza Inn- fried chicken & pot roast
Rancho del Zocalo- carne asada w/ enchaladas
Cafe Orleans- monte cristo
Blue Bayou- pork chops
Tiki Juice Bar- Dole float
Main Street Cone Shop- Firehouse 105
Pooh Corner- apple pie candy apple

Can't go wrong w/ popcorn and churros!

Favorite foods:

Count Down Chicken Fusili at Redd Rockett's Pizza Port: Fusilli pasta tossed with seasoned grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and Parmesan cream sauce with a touch of fresh basil

Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou

Bread Bowls at the Boudin Bakery

Definitely liked the selections at the Plaza buffet

As a treat, Tigger Tails from Pooh's Corner were divine. My kids still talk about Tigger Tails. We made up a song about them.

Ariel's Grotto had a great pasta dish.

Did NOT like the selections at Goofy's Kitchen for dinner. I know others will have varying opinions, but I was not happy. The cupcakes tasted particularly bad, for some reason.

IHOP was a ripoff.

I am a longtime fan of the Goofy's breakfast and I will suggest that anyone tries it at least once - and all the people I have taken or referred there loved it. HOWEVER, I have to agree with you somewhat about the dinner buffet. The one time I ate the Goofy's dinner - and this was probably a good 13 years ago - I was not that thrilled. I didn't care too much for the selections they had at that time. Maybe there just were not enough things to please me, while other people would love it, but I have never been interested in going back there for dinner - especially since dinner is more expensive! I think if I had been really impressed with the dinner I had at GK in 1995, I might not mind so much going back there now and shelling out almost $40. But I will stick with the tried and true if I am going to spend that kind of money on food - and the tried and true for me is the breakfast.

I can see how, after your dinner experience at Goofy's, you probably would not be excited to go there and sample their breakfast, but I hope you give it a try one day (if you haven't already)! Oh, and as for the bad cupcakes, I wonder if they perhaps pulled those cupcakes you had from the same batch the birthday cupcakes come from. As I stated in my earlier post, the birthday cupcakes are not good - and I LOVE cupcakes, so that disappointed me. It almost seemed like the cupcakes were not freshly made, like they had just been pulled out of a storage room where they had been sitting for a month! Oh well, the GK breakfast/brunch selections are good enough to make up for the bad cupcakes!
