What are your top 3 most respected occupations?

1. firefighters/police
2. nurses (I am one) :teeth:
3. teachers

Notice none of us have said NBA basketball players or sit com stars, but they're the ones our society pays the most money to.

I have to say that I do not respect a 'profession'.

There are many individuals that I know of who are in many of the 'wonderful' professions listed in this thread, who are horrible, and who I would not have one tiny ounce of respect for.

I love this thread! Let's remember to say thanks to them all whenever we can!

For me I would say
1. Anyone who puts their life on the line for society.
2. Clergy
3. Any job where they care for others who can't care for themselves.

Police, including corrections offlicers.
Firemen/women.
Nurses.
Teachers.

Physicians (DH is a wonderful physician and is very dedicated)
Military. (DH is currently serving in Iraq)
Nurses ( all work very hard at inconvenient hours)

Childcare providers :lovestruc

Now I remember why I gave up my daycare :sad1:

Elected officials.....I know, I know many people have a cynical view of political leaders but there are many that we never read about who are doing unbelievable work advocating for children, homeless, mentally ill and those without a voice. I think of my congressman who is wheelchair bound as a result of a shooting accident when he was a police cadet at age 16. The stamina, dedication and willpower that it takes for him to just get out of bed every morning, let alone travel back and forth to DC, is remarkable and admirable. I agree with another poster though, I don't think there is a particular profession I admire but there are certainly individuals I admire.

Doctor, Judge, and CEO.
The doctor keeps me together
The judge keeps society together
And the CEO keeps companies together, maintaining jobs, which has a massive ripple effect across society.

Teaching and nursing are nice, and I know awesome people who do both, but I think in terms of having a huge ripple effect across society, these professions have a much larger magnitude.

Good analysis. I would agree with those points.

What?! No hairdressers? ;) Where would we all be if every day was a bad hair day??!! :teeth:

I think I just respect people who do their jobs well and to the best of their ability like whatver they are doing is the most important job on earth. I'm married to a FF/paramedic and it is nice to see them listed as a respected worker.

Mothers {don't even try to tell me that this isn't a "profession". ;) I know plenty of guys who sit at machines all day just pushing a button every now and then who didn't scramble to make things run smoothly half as much as I did at home!}
The armed services :yay: ....if not for these people none of us would be safe.
Teachers :teacher: ...you couldn't pay me enough to put up with some of the stuff that these heros do every day!

Anyone who does a job most people would turn down, like street sweepers, dish washers etc. To me they are invisible heroes - without them the world as we know it just wouldn't function. They get very little in the way of pay, recognition and respect.
