Its on the front page of Cnn.com right now but everytime I see it I get more and more confused. Its just a really weird case.

A few of my random thoughts,

1. Is she making it all up? Why would she make it all up?
2. If it is REAL then are the two insidents related? If so then could it possibly be a stalker?
3. Also why would someone knock her out (the first insident) and then kidnap her this time but not rob her or rape her? What did they want and why would they let her go?
4. According to the news she is fine now and was released so why was she lying in a marsh? Why wasn't she up and running to find help??

I don't know maybe I'm way off base but this whole case just comes across as weird to me.

Did CNN say she didn't get raped? I didn't hear that part yet. I heard she was fine, but they did not go into details.

I'm interested to watch this story unfold... the way things are being presented by the media, it doesnt all add up and sounds fishy...

I'm going to keep my eyes open to what happens next in all this.

Tinks,

You know maybe I'm wrong. I read that she wasn't robbed or raped in the first attack, so I'm not totally sure about this one. I certaily pray she wasn't.

Its just not all falling in place for some reason.

Why would she leave her door open unless maybe someone she knew called her outside......but she doesn't know this person. I don't know.

I often wonder how some crimes (whether this one is or not, I have no idea), like this one, or the one out in CA where the husband is in jail, accused of killing his expectant wife and unborn child, get such national media attention. Not that the crime is insignificant. Take the one in CA. The killing of that lady and child was terrible, true, but crimes of that type (and worse) sadly happen often. But for some reason, every once in awhile, one takes off with almost a cult-like following. I wonder why that is. Any ideas??

(Edited for misspells)

I pray that she wasn't raped either, but I have a sick feeling that she was. I'd be surprised if there's not a link to the first attack, too. It is all strange...and at 2:00 in the morning! I hope she is o.k. after all this and pray for her:(

I don't know Dan but I know what you mean. The Lacy Peterson case has already had movies made. Its so so sad, but you are right. We had a man murder his wife and child here about 5 years ago. It all happened in their home, the man just went nuts but of course there was no national coverage, but then again they were found immediantly, no kidnapping or missing person.

I just seem to be going back to someone stalking her, but more than not, people know their stalkers. I don't know I want to hear more though.

I think it is partly because they resemble in many ways a "perfect" American couple - white, middle to upper middle class (?), attractive, etc. Wasn't she a cheerleader in high school? They seem so perfect from the outside - I think that is what fascinates people. Think of the Ramsey case - a beautiful, white, wealthy family. They seem to have it all and then a terrible crime happens - and it might be one of them.

I've thought that it's odd too, Beauty.

Years ago, a very prominent NY Police Chief wrote a book about the killing of Kitty Genovese back in 1964. The shock of the story was how no one helped a woman who was stabbed repeatedly in public. In the book the Chief points out that the same exact thing happened to a Black woman the same night. Because Kitty G was a middle class white girl the media never made a big deal of it because "people" only cared about those they could relate to.

According to "statistics" four wives are killed or battered to death by their husbands daily. That leaves LOTS of them that don't have a Movie of the week written about them.

Sadly Dan, I think part of the reason is the attractiveness of the victim or suspect. And I mean all round attractiveness : good looking, well dressed, and, most of all, well spoken. The viewer quickly tires of the interviewee who freezes in the camera lights and stammers and has difficulty stringing a sentence together. I honestly believe the news directors are out there ready to pounce on anyone who will look good enough on TV to attract viewers.

I've heard of that case Robin. Its often cited in psychology textbooks as an example of the concept of "diffusion of responsibility". Very, very sad. And it is also sad that so many women die every day at the hands of their partners and no one even hears their name - often because of the color of their skin or because of the amount of money in their wallet.

We can even take it further than that. Here in Mississippi (as I'm sure elsewhere) have died over the clothes or shoes they have on or simply the colors they wear (gang related.)

Something does seem very fishy with this case. I've been wondering about the whole thing myself.

I think the reason some cases get national attention is because so often in those cases someone is missing and the media is tryng to help with exposure so that the missing can be found quicker (and maybe still alive). After that everyone's heard about the case and wants to hear the follow up. Nearly every 'famous' crime I can think of falls in this catagory except the OJ Simpson one but then he was famous and so there's the reason for all of the interest in his case.

That's defintely true Beauty. I was specifically referring to the fact that race and socioeconomic status seem come into play when the media decides how important a crime is (and how much media coverage to give it). Of course the media is influenced by society at large. Just another example that racism and economicism (:p) are alive and well in our country. :(

I think Keli has probably the biggest factor right on. The cases were already out there when the families were asking for help finding their missing loved ones. People are curious about the outcome.

Now, do race, beauty, socioeconomic status, etc. play a big part in who gets their cases the most public attention - most likely.

We had a case here in PHX. not too long ago - an amber alert went out about a missing girl - I think around 12 or 13. It was a big deal here - don't think it got picked up nationally though. She was from a disadvantaged area - turned out to be a hoax - she just didn't want to go to church, so had her sister make up a story about her being abducted by strangers. Sad.

Very weird and strange case, this Audrey case, cause nothing adds up! Just like it didn't add up in the Peterson case and other cases......

We have been saying for days (even before she was found) that something smelled funny about this case. It is even stranger now. I suspect some of it is that not enough of the real facts are being let out yet, and for good reason. Maybe it will make more sense when the whole story is known.
