What are your thoughts on a pet friendly DVC?

We have two cats but NO WAY do I want DVC to become "pet friendly".

I don't want to stay in a room that has had pets in it & I would never consider bringing my own on vacation. :sad2:

I am a dissenter, and would want and use a pet friendly DVC resort.

Bobbi:goodvibes

I'd be ok with the premise as long as it was its own private resort, and that pets could not be brought into the other DVC resorts. I have one child with asthma, and we avoid all smoking hotels. I have not been dx, but too much pet dander does cause my eyes to water or sneeze. So, Disney and then DVC has been an easy destination spot because I don't have to worry about pets or smoking rooms.

Well they do allow dogs at the hotels. I noticed a lot of service dogs on my last visit so this does occur - and they're not associated with a celebrity

I'm assuming these aren't causing issues but I have to agree, no pets. And I have two wonderful shelties!!

I've just noticed so many more hotel chains allowing it. At first it was only the expensive hotels (Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, etc) then it seemed to start expanding. It seems more commonplace to see a dog walking through the lobby of a hotel these days so it makes me wonder if Disney will follow suit. I can see if they have some high profile celebrity staying at the Grand Floridian that they would chose not to notice the dog in the room with them. Not saying its right or fair, but I'm sure it happens.

What if there was an extra charge to bring your pet? Or a deposit that you only got back once housekeeping reported that the room was left in good condition? Would that change anyone's opinion?
While we'd likely take advantage of a pet friendly option, I would vote no. Few timeshares allow them but I don't know about the liability. Westgate tends to allow them and for some they designate certain units and for others they simply charge a fee and do extra cleaning. As for hotels, I'm not sure there's been a large expansion. Hampton Inns often did before they joined up with Hilton. Lowe's and La Quinta have for a long time.

Do you think Disney will ever allow pets in any of their hotels? Do you think they would allow them in DVC accommodations or the regular hotel rooms? Would you like this? Just speculating, of course. :)

I don't know if they will ever allow it on a regular basis.

I have 3 cats, 2 dogs and 2 birds. I would never expect anyone to put up with all the barking, purring or chirping that goes on here!

One of my dogs has been to Disney, stayed in the kennel and appeared to have a wonderful time. We visited her and walked her every day, in addition to the attention she received from the kennel staff.

On retirement I would like to travel and bring the dogs. For this it will have to be RV style vacationing and Fort Wilderness should fit the bill. The dogs can go to the kennel while we are in the parks.

I agree with most of what was said about waste, housekeepers, howling/barking. I also wouldn't want to risk fleas!:scared:

Service dogs are exempt from the 'no pets' rules. That's the law.

As a dog owner, not going to happen and don't want it to happen. That's what the Best Friends Pet Care Kennel across from Port Orleans is for.
I totally agree! We did Disney in the past at the end of Florida dog show trips, and we used the old kennels they provided at each park. I thought it was a wonderful service, and the new pet center looks even more amazing. NO WAY do I want to take care of my dogs while I'm on vacation. And further...NO WAY do I want to encounter other people taking care of (or not taking care of properly) their dog or cat on vacation. Pets have resorts of their own to go to back at home....They are called boarding kennels. We always have someone come in and house/dog sit our own kennel, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I also vote NO.
I have a dog and 2 cats. I have traveled with my cats when moving cross country, but it was a big pain. I would not want to take my pets on vacation. Vacationing with my kids is enough work. :lmao:

I'm another no - I just don't want to have to deal with pet smells or damage in the rooms. Or the dogs barking and causing noise when I am trying to sleep or nap. It just seems like "one more thing" for Disney to try to take care of and I don't think they need to do that.

I would vote no. I stayed at an extended hotel twice which was pet friendly during reconstruction of our home and after we sold our home and were waiting for closing. We had a cat. It allowed dogs on leash outside and pets indoors. Although it was nice to have our little family member with us while we were displaced, I don't fancy the idea of a pet friendly vacation resort. This particular hotel had daily housekeeping but still the room had pet hair. Not all pet owners are created equal, not all clean up after their pets.

I have 3 cocker spaniels who have more time spent on their hair each month than I do and have spent more time in classes than most humans their age.

The main reason I would not bring them to Disney is that I don't want them around irresponsible dog owners. Our very first obedience class I saw a pit mix pull out of a collar and grab a beagle by the throat. At an obedience trial, I pulled Arnold out of the way while a dobie lunged at him....and these were trained dogs!

Oh, and the last time they were kenneled, they got mange from another dog. There are places that I take my dogs, but rarely in just a random public area.

When I want to spend my vacation with my dogs, it will be somewhere like the dog camp in Vermont where the activites are centered around the animals.

I personally don't care if they build a pet-friendly DVC and market it as such, just don't turn the current DVCs into pet-DVCs. I have enough trouble with my allergies at home with our 2 cats - I adore pets, but I love having no allergies while on vacation.

Another 'no' vote. If I want to travel with my dog, I'll go to a state park where she can enjoy it as well.

I wouldn't mind if all the dogs were fairly well behaved but with all the barks it would be more like a kennel than a hotel. I just don't think the logistics of it would work. :(

If they allow people to bring their pets, next thing you know people will want to bring their kids! :upsidedow

HAHAHA

I would be ALL for A SINGLE resort allowing pets, smoking, and all of the other things that a huge percentage of a population doesn't care to be around.

However, the housekeeping would have to be limited to check out - to prepare for the next guests.

Part of me totally understands that people LOVE their pets, and love to travel with their pets - however, people you who angry when their pets aren't welcome are entirely unreasonable. A pet is an animal - and people's tolerance for animals varies greatly.

I think if they built a resort that was like small apartments/condos each with its own fenced patio area AND an included feature would be someone that would stop by daily and police the patio area and remove any animal waste.

People would need to realize that if they wanted the convenience of smoking in their room, and the ability to bring their pets with them, and they would need to be prepared to pay for the additional features.

With that being said, what percentage of the smoking population and pet owning population would be WILLING to pay a premium price for a less than premium experience?

Would the resort create more problems that it would solve? YES - I think it would create more problems than it would solve.

Do I think Disney wants a resort on their hands that would create a ton of problems? Guest issues? Complaints? Yeah.... I really don't think Disney wants any part of dealing with any of that - that's exactly why they shed the kennel services at the parks - and Best Friends was built, and not 'Disney' branded!

No way I didn't buy dvc to be in room with dogs and cats and whatever. Dogs are not people they are dirty and lick their own butts. Dogs are not just like people they are not just like a son or daughter. Do you poop and pee on people's sidewalks grass and curbs. No
