What are your thoughts on a pet friendly DVC?

Do you think Disney will ever allow pets in any of their hotels? Do you think they would allow them in DVC accommodations or the regular hotel rooms? Would you like this? Just speculating, of course.

I wouldn't think so and I wouldn't want it. As much of a dog lover as I am, the likelihood for trouble is too great. It would only take one owner in a hundred to make things miserable with dog waste and damage to rooms, etc. Or a howler thats left at 'home' while the family hits the parks. And I don't think the housekeepers would appreciate dealing with someone's dog when they come in for a mid week make up. They provide the modern kennel, that's enough.

No pets. Not in any DVC resort. What will the pets do in a strange place when the owners are out of the room? Think about the housekeepers.

Personally, I do not want to encounter other people's pets (or their waste) at Disney nor do I want to listen to dogs barking when I am in my room. I do not want my dues to be responsible for additional liability insurance or extra cleaning or for Disney employees to "pick up" after owners who refuse to do so.

I'm sorry for the responsible pet owners, but there are far too many who are not responsible. If pets were allowed in any resort, it wouldn't be long before irresponsible owners would justify sneaking then into a resort that didn't allow them. There have already been reports of this.

There are good quality kennels for those who must bring along their pets. IMO, few pets enjoy travel and are better off staying in a kennel or with someone to look after them while the owners are away.

No pets - just legitimate service animals, who are specially trained and cared for.

And imagine the owners that let their pets out without a leash to "go" and never clean up. Or the pet that runs away after a wild animal or feral cat. There are a lot of untamed animals on Disney property.

Nope, I was a dog person most of my life, however now I have 3 house cats. I would not want to see them in the rooms on any sort of regularly allowed basis. And what kind of "vacation" would it be for the pets to be left unattended in the rooms whilst their family is gone to the parks opening to closing? I board my cats at the vet if I go on a trip. Expensive, but it is best for all concerned, including the pets.

Most people believe their own pets are clean and well behaved, but are convinced everyone else's animals are filthy beasts. And then you have the allergy sufferers. Given those obstacles, I don't think Disney would see much of a plus side to creating a pet friendly environment for the masses.

As a dog owner, not going to happen and don't want it to happen. That's what the Best Friends Pet Care Kennel across from Port Orleans is for.

Never going to happen. For WDW, think about it. They expect you to be in the parks all day. Why would they ever allow pets when the result would be leaving them in the room alone all day. Also, it is like having smoking rooms. You have a large population who are allergic to pets and thus the result would be that a lot of rooms would have to be segregated as pets only and those would have to be far from any others. I have a pet, I am not allegeric but I think it would be the dumbest decision, including from an economic viewpoint, that Disney could ever make to allow pets in hotels or DVC resorts at WDW.

Just a random thought, I would assume that hotels that allow pets in the rooms have to carry extra liability insurance, in case an employee is bitten (housekeeping, etc). That'd be added to the maintenance fees at a DVC resort, no?

Not to mention the extra costs for cleaning and upkeep, as messes have to be cleaned up, and carpets that have been 'decorated' too many times have to be replaced, and pillows get chewed up...

But to answer the question, no. I love dogs and cats, but I wouldn't stay in a DVC resorts that allowed them in the rooms, and I wouldn't buy an interest in a DVC resort that allowed them.

I've just noticed so many more hotel chains allowing it. At first it was only the expensive hotels (Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, etc) then it seemed to start expanding. It seems more commonplace to see a dog walking through the lobby of a hotel these days so it makes me wonder if Disney will follow suit. I can see if they have some high profile celebrity staying at the Grand Floridian that they would chose not to notice the dog in the room with them. Not saying its right or fair, but I'm sure it happens.

What if there was an extra charge to bring your pet? Or a deposit that you only got back once housekeeping reported that the room was left in good condition? Would that change anyone's opinion?

It wouldn't change my opinion.

No, it would not change my opinion. Many of the hotels offering pats are doing so because they simply need the business. So far, Disney and DVC resorts don't seem to be having trouble filling rooms with their current offers.

And remember, extra maid time and services cost money and manpower. The Orlando area is on of the few areas in the country where there is a shortage of workers wanting to fill those types of positions.

Again no. It would be a decision contrary to the make-up of WDW where they want you in the parks all day. Be aware that those pet friendly Four Seasons and Ritz's, etc. all charge a fee and require that the pet never be left in the room alone (and some then charge a King's Ransom for a pet sitter; i.e., it becomes another profit center). At WDW, Disney does not want you staying in the room all day; it wants you in the parks, restaurants, and stores, spending money. It would be contrary to the theme park concept to allow pets and thus keep someone out of the parks all day.

We take our dog with us to the Keys and to Sanibel/Captiva, they have cottages that allow them and they are also allowed on certain beaches. But that's a different environment than Disney. We get there, settle in, grill out and just hang out together with our friends and family. At Disney we spend very little time actually in the villa and with all of the comings and goings out in the halls etc. I think barking would be an issue!

So it's a no for us!

I'm with those that say NO! I am not a pet person and I don't want to hear someone's dog barking while I'm trying to sleep or have my room smell like wet dog. I hate pet hair on furniture and on my cloths. No pets in my house. It would add expense to the rest of us owners who don't want pets at Disney

I have two dogs and three cats and they all get boarded at the vets when we go on vacation. And we pay the vet a whole bunch of money when we get home. But I would not want them on my trip to WDW. We did take the two dogs with us to Arkansas last summer when we rented a cabin, but they had our attention 24/7 on that trip. When we went for a walk, they went with us.

I vote no, as well. Love animals, but the cons out-weigh the pluses. if a family is visiting Disney and happen to have their pets along, then they can stay at several great hotels off-site or use the new kennel.

If DVD built a resort that was specifically for pets from the outset and it was well notated, then I would likely be ok with this. I wouldn't buy points there, but would be ok.

However, I think the OP was premising that all DVC resorts become pet allowable, and not just a specific isolated resort. In this case, I do not think Disney would do this.

Interesting, as I just stayed in a hotel (mid range, not the Ritz) where they proudly announced they they were eliminating the smoking / pet rooms (they were one in the same). I think that trend at the high-end hotels is because their business model is built around giving the customer ANYTHING he wants because price is not a deal killer.

Disney will accommodate those guests as well; check out the rates for the new kennel across from PO. Optional flat screen TVs for Fido!
