What are your personal long range DVC plans?

Thank you all for your responses. I've really enjoyed reading them all so keep them coming!

I know that at best, future plans of DVC are simply speculative, but what to you think will actually be done as the 2042 contracts edge closer to expiration?

You would think they would want to get that information out very soon, as that lack of information may be what is hurting (if the gossip mill is correct) SSR sales, rather than any issues with the resort itself. I know it factored in to our decision.

We toured SSR on our recent trip and thought it was an incredibly beautiful resort. The rooms are so fresh, and really nicely appointed. I think the grounds and landscaping will mature beautifully. We didn't have any transportation issues while staying at OKW, so I was not worried in the least that that would be an issue at SSR. Some in our family would really enjoy the golf activities, relative quiet and easy access to Downtown Disney and would really appreciate having the 12 extra years.

Right now, however, our family is growing with grandchildren and the close access to the parks was a priority for us.

Aside from that, the only other reason we didn't purchase SSR on the spot, was that we really love experiencing and staying at all of the DVC resorts and I'm sure that desire will continue.

Having absolutely no good feel from Disney for future park expansion plans or what other DVC resorts might be built and available with close park proximity, along with SSR between 2042 and 2054, led us to our decision to begin our DVC membership with a purchase at BWV.

Our guide was really great but I found it truly surprising and a little shocking, that during a DVC sales pitch, while they have you sitting there in a room with a pen in your hand, they can not or will not expound on the future of DVC. You would think that would be the absolute most important time to loudly proclaim DVC's future.

I think it is great that they may expand DVC beyond the two current offsite properties. However, I would rather be able to experience all of the current and wonderful selection of WDW DVC resorts until 2042 than feel limited or uncertain that there will be more than one WDW property for the next 12 year period.

Some may argue with some of the reasoning included in our decision, but for us, it was the right choice for now and we shall wait to see what the future may hold. If it appears there will be more than one WDW DVC property with close proximity to the parks available after 2042, we would have no problems adding on at SSR as it really is a lovely resort.

Our personal long range plans are to spend as much as possible in WDW until the last second that our contract expires!!!!!!

Is 10-12 years even long term? I can't believe we've owned for like 5 by now LOL...

Anyhow, to answer the question, I plan to retire with them thank you very much  I'm not selling LOL...

We plan on it being for the long haul. Hopefully it will be but there may be circumstances that could prevent us in the future.

But as long and as much as I can, I will hold that contract in my hot little hands.

We are closing in on 60, and one of us is hoping to retire in another couple of months(I hope, I hope!). Since we have over 900 pts, we may begin selling off some of our points as we meander toward 70. By the time we are actually there, I think we will only be holding a smaller contract, with the others sold or given to kids. Right now, one of them is getting an add-on from us to see how she can handle the dues. If she does OK, I will either give her another add-on, or 150 pts. The younger one is like a f*** in a windstorm, so I don't dare trust her with my precious points yet!

Keep going to the World year after year.

We have 332 OKW and 110 BCV which covers our January (week), October (week) and December (five week nights) trips in one bedroom villas. We also have a Cypress Harbour week we use in May for a week mixed between Sea World, WDW and doing absolutely nothing!

We had a strategy of adding on at VWL and possibly at one of the yet to be announced resorts. We even had Pat at TTS looking for the right VWL contract. Then this winter we found it necessary to relocate to Florida in the Orlando or Melbourne areas. We hope to determine where next week when we are in Florida for 10 days. We expect to be Florida residents by Labor Day. So now our entire DVC and Orlando MVCI strategies have been turned upside down.

At the moment we plan on not buying or selling any points. We will just hold tight and see how things go for a year or two then make some decisions. One nice thing -- no more airports or rental cars for Florida! That would leave only our Southwest US and Aruba MVCI contracts requiring travel.

We have 500 points at SSR and plan on using them ourselves or let family use them until they expire. :thumbsup2

We just became members, so I'm still dreaming about the short term plans for two trips in '07.

Our kids are very young now, 4 yr and 6 mo. so we probably have a lot of trips to the WDW and DL (we live in no. california) ahead of us. So I think we will hold on to our points for at least 10 years and the truth is I'll probably never want to sell them. I've always dreamed about being able to go to the World every year and it's going to be possible with DVC. However, if a DVC is oped at AKL, CR or DL I might just have to add on more points.

JimC - Wow, that sounds exciting! Hope your move and transition goes smoothly for you and hope the move is a result of positive changes for you and your family. Wishing you all the best!

Thank you diznyfanatic! :)

We have 550 points and I'm looking forward to many years of hand holding with my wife.

We own 400 points (300 Boardwalk and 100 Vero) and our long term plan is to enjoy our DVC points year after year for as long as we are able or until our points run out. Whichever comes first! :)

Looking forward to spending my 83rd birthday in January, 2042 at OKW. Between now and then, just planning as many great trips "Home" as possible. :woohoo:

My plans are to just keep going...and going...and going....and going....and going but always keeping in mind that "Man Plans and God Laughs"

At this point, our kids are entering the "can't take kids out of school for vacation" years. What this means is that the only time we can travel will be during summer vacation or school holidays...which are also the highest point usage @ DVC and our 150 pt. contract will not get us very far. Because of that, we will not be going to WDW as often as we used to and will probably rent out our points and use the cash proceeds to vacation other places that aren't as crowded. We will still get our Disney fix, but it will probably be three days @ DLR paying cash vs. 8-10 days @ WDW on points. My DH would not have a problem selling our contract, but I prefer to hang onto it for the days when he and I will be taking solo trips and will be grateful that we (I!) had the foresight to plan ahead. :thumbsup2

Like everything else - use it until it gets old and then sell it on eBay.

Thanks for the smiles guys!

My plans remain to retire to Disney.

1) Amass 5,200 Points (5,000 in my 'name', 200 in DW's 'name').

2) When we retire 12-20 years from now, September 1 to March 31 in an OKW 1 Bedroom, visiting relatives for Turkey Day and Xmas. Driving a RV around the Great Ole USA the rest of the time. When we get too old to drive, spending the full year in studios at WDW, various resorts for flavor.

3) Getting Casual, Seasonal Jobs at Disney for free Park Entry.

4) As calypso pointed out for the next 12 years my three kids will be in the important school years, so no more early December vacations for us, just High Point, High Heat, High Hummidity, High Crowd vacations. I'm gonna rent out as many points as I can during these 'years' so that I can offset maintenance fees, and recover some capital.

5) Pray for the CRV or AKVs.

Simple, really.

Tony, you're the man :worship:

We just purchased. In theory we're in it for the long haul, although I definitely know we're in it for at least 10-15 years. If it gets old we'll sell, but right now we have about 8 years planned out already.

We own 200 at SSR. That may very well be enough-- sometimes my eyes get too big for my stomach. It probably makes more sense for us to go every 18-24 months rather than once a year, because we have a lot of other family-related travel obligations, but I really would love to make it down once a year.

I don't think I'd every need or want more than 350. I certainly don't want to pay dues on more than 350. My vague plan, subject to change, is a 75 point add-on at VCR and and 75-points at VAKL, or perhaps instead of one of those try to get a small add-on at BWV. These are obviously far in the future and that's a good thing, because we just bought at SSR and we really need to use our membership for a couple years and see how we like our current allotment before we commit to any more.

I've got ample points for my needs at VWL. I will do 25-point add ons if there are ever DVCs at Grand Californian or Animal Kingdom Lodge. Otherwise, I'll just enjoy what I have.
