What are your Mr. Potato Head tips?

I am clueless here guys :confused3

This sounds like fun but I don't what you are talking about stuffing the box??

I will be on the lookout at garage sales for potato heads.

yup, that would have been my DS 2nd birthday party!

ordered a plain (no decorations) cake from our favorite bakery and plopped a potatoe head on top of that too! so cute.

also used craft paper (the brown wrapping paper size roll) and cut out a 3 foot tall potato and cut foam pieces for ears eyes nose mouth feet arms. . .

and made extra noses to play pin the nose on potato head. kids loved it.

also bought those "bowler derby" looking plastic hats at the party store in assorted colors (birhtday boy got the black one) to make all guest look like potato heads when they wore that and their black glasses/nose combos from loot bag.

fun stuff. he just turned 4 and had a great pirate party but still talks about his potato party.

Can someone help me please? So you bring a potato head from home and go to a store at WDW to fill it up with Disney pieces? Where is this store in WDW?

thank you in advance:flower3:

Yes, they have coolest disney mr. potato head pieces like Areils hair, Mary Poppins umbrella, Donald Ducks hat, ect...../ The best place to buy them at WDW is in DTD at "Once Upon a ToY'. You can also find them on main street at MGM studios and there is a store in Dino land at AK that has some. It is fun and can be addicting. I always buy a box for my grandchildren and a box for me every trip. There are always new pieces to get. enjoy

I'm so glad I found this thread - I always thought you had to buy the head, which would have been extremely expensive that way! We are headed that way in a week and a half for a quickie 2-day trip, so I think I will have to run around to some thrift stores and buy another potato head!!

If memory serves me correct, they have boxes there, leave your potato head home and fill the box with the parts. You will get quite a bit more in with out the head in there.

Thanks for this post! I am looking forward to this when we go to WDW in October. It sounds like a lot of fun!

When I bought our first potatoe I filled the inside, under the thing on top and beside the box barely closed. The good thing is it did close and I had so many things.

Second time I just bought pieces and no head so I really got a lot of things. I just bought a generic one at wal-mart.

We have 'stuffed the box' at DTD twice & really love it! I would also say that both times, the CM have helped at check out by giving me alot of leeway w/ the box being closed...they have tape at the register for you to shut the box.

Also, that Easter Bunny Potato Head is cute...I would recommend buying it AFTER Easter, if you're not buying it for an Easter basket. It will probably be 50% off or more & you still have you potato head for Disney & extra pieces!!

I would also buy the basic potato at WalMart or Target. I have about 10 PH's and now buy all the seasonal ones and special seasonal parts at discount stores. I buy the WDW specific parts at WDW only.

If you are having difficulty getting the parts in, the folks at Once Upon a Toy in Downtown Disney have always been more than willing to help out.

Stay clear of extra arms, basic eyes, noses, etc. Get the pieces that you can't get elsewhere....

hey Mrs Potatoe Head!:)

you mentioned staying clear of buying the arms. i thought that the disney arms were exclusive because of the way they can hold items, like wands, ice cream, autograph book, sign etc.?? i might be wrong though.

i crammed the arms down the cormers of the box as i loaded it and near to the end. wands, skinny and flat things near the end too. ;)

I think you are right. We didn't get enough of those kinds of arms last trip. Sadly, each of our kids' potatoes only get to "hold" one thing. :sad2: But there's usually not too much fighting! They are already working on a their Potato Parts wish list for December!!!

I found this website to be interesting if you are new the the whole concept, or if you want to get a list going ahad of time for your trip. My kids have a ball just looking at all the parts there are: www.mrpotatohead.net/2000/20007.htm

Here is a pic of our Mr. Potato head, Darth Tater:rotfl: . My DH is a huge Star Wars fan and he bought it for our son Daniel before he was even born. Its sitting in the box waiting to be played with. We will be picking up a box of parts when we hit the world in September!

I dont know if any one would be interested but I created a spread sheet that has most of the disney pieces listed its in like check off form... my goal is to get every piece i can...I filled 2 boxes alone in Feb. and another box back in november plus i had some from my last trip in 2003.

If I remember correctly I think the current price of the box is $18---we were there in December and I am prety sure that is what it was. i bought 3 boxes and now we have almost all the current parts. I can't wait for the new releases to come out!!! :cool1:

Two questions.

1. When are the new parts supposed to come out?

2. When the new parts come out, are the old ones not available anymore?

Thanks:goodvibes

My comment is to only get ONE set of arms...for each potato. Some folks tend to add things like extra arms to their box and it just isn't necessary. I have almost every part made, but I also have about 15 sets of arms! It's just silly how those arms multiply in the box.

But if you DO buy arms, put them in your potato before buying them because some of the potatoes from Disney had the arm holes drilled too big and the arms wouldn't stay on. You couldn't add anything to them to hang off because the arm itself wouldn't stay attached.

Still, a basic PH from Walmart or Target is a good buy...for the basic parts.

Silly little things that bother me....
