Agreed, not everybody is stupid. If we don't know the person, we don't talk to them. It's that simple.

If parents can't trust their kids, they need counseling. Save for the fact the child has given them MULTIPLE reasons not to trust them.

My parents have a very strong opinion on this.
Unless you have a reason not to trust them (like if they're acting different than normal in a bad way or texting every 30 seconds) then it is an invasion of privacy.
But, that's just the way I was brought up.
Unless I give my parents a reason not to trust me, my text messages are my own business.

If there's no reason to worry, it's absolutely an invasion of privacy.
But if the parents suspect "something is up" ie; suicide,etc. then they can look. The latter is called parenting.

I wouldn't be upset if my mom went through my texts or IMs or emails if she thought there was something wrong.
I'd be a bit upset if she just did it for the fun of it though.
I know sometimes my mom will read me out my text message when she has my phone and we're just playing around. (She teases me)
I don't mind when she does that.

Well, my parents would be curious if I started ttexting because I don't have a plan. Therefore, each text I send is money they have to pay the phone company.
I don't text because I don't have a plan and because I can get in touch with people faster by the pc or by calling.

My limit is 1500 and I have gone over it multiple times.
My parents still have yet to read my text messages.

My parents don't look through my text messages, I think THAT'S an invasion of privacy.
I think they do look at the history every once in a while, though, and I'm fine with that.

I think that if your parents trust you though and you don't give them reason for suspicion, there's no need for it.
My mom's told me on occassion though that privacy's a privledge, and if she suspected me of anything (ie drug use) she'd have no guilt searching my room or anything.

I think that if it is needed then it is needed. Sometimes, there is just absolutely no reason to look, like they are just curios. However, they are paying for it so I guess that we shouldn't mind that much. My parents have nothing to worry about with me though so they don't ever look.

So I'm sorry girls for directing you to that board!! And for those people being so rude to you!
That infuriates me how the most of the CB jumps on teens/kids because of their age.

Remember that thread a while ago about how we shouldn't be scared to post on the CB...that didn't last long did it? lol


Anyways, My parents don't really care what i do...I'm 19 and therefore old enough to make my own choices. They didn't moniter me TOO much when I was younger either, sometimes they'd ask me what I was up to online, but that's about it.
And look at me!! I turned out JUUUUUST fine!

I have nothing to hide really, so I don't care if my parents look at my internet/phone. Although I do hate it when my dad picks up my phone and just going through the pictures because he's bored. It's really annoying.

I really only go to 2 internet sites, facebook and the dis. And I know for a fact my mom has monitored both before. I don't mind, because really, it's her job.

And I don't think my mom has ever gone through my texts, but there's really nothing interesting on there.

I 100% a parent has every right to monitor their childs internet/phone usage. Afterall, they are paying those bills and they did give birth to you/feed you through the years/raise you in general.
