Mostly I believe everything in moderation is fine. I do have some preferences, though.
I buy only real butter, and have some brand preferences (Best Foods mayo only, Tillamook cheese, etc).
I don't care for onions and don't cook with them. I don't force myself to eat things I don't care for - mushrooms, peppers, etc.
I try to buy only free range eggs and preferably local.
I buy in-season produce, local when possible, but if I want something out of season and it looks good I will buy it also because I think produce is an important part of the budget.
I try to buy reduced or fat free or "healthy" when I think that version of a food also tastes good (reduced fat peanut butter, skim milk, whole wheat fiber-enriched hfcs-free bread, whole wheat blend pastas) but won't when I think it tastes nowhere near the regular version (I only buy regular sour cream, mayo).
Generally I think if I make it myself it tastes better (ranch dressing, soup, etc). Good quality spices (I like Penzeys) help making homemade cooking more flavorful and motivating for me.
For me, especially while pregnant, eating breakfast everyday that includes fruit, carbs and protein is important - what has been perfect for me has been something like an apple or sliced strawberries with a pb&j sandwich on whole wheat.
Beyond that - I use Splenda. I drink diet soda sometimes (hate regular soda), with aspartame. I try to go for more natural versions of products like 100% juices but if I end up with something with HFCS I don't freak out. I even buy velveeta made with 2% milk when I'm making broccoli cheese soup because it melts like nothing else.
I don't say no to much, but I do have preferences that come from a combination of taste, nutrition and environmental/animal concerns.
