What are your favorite side dishes?

I would never be satisfied with just meat and veggies. :confused3 Although sometimes I make just 2 sides and no meat.
We're a bit different in our house because we rarely eat meat. Most meals are vegetable based so it's a little hard to call something a side. Dinner might be grilled veggies over brown rice. Very filling. Very tasty. No "side" really. Or I'll make tofu noodle bowls - veggie broth with tofu, assorted veggies and rice noodles. Again, no meat and no "side." Or homemade pizza with onions, mushrooms, peppers, olives and spinach. Also no side. The only thing we typically have that is on the side with a meal is bread - usually garlic bread.

I'm beginning to feel like a pig here. :rotfl: I make two sides for dinner...one veggie and another side of something. I would never be satisfied with just meat and veggies. :confused3 Although sometimes I make just 2 sides and no meat.
I always thought that was the way, too. LOL If I was served meat and a veggie, I;d be looking around for the starch-rice, potatoes, pasta....

I always cook meat, veg and one of the above. Sometimes 2 vegetables.

I make mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, oven roasted potatoes or rice mainly.

We always have a "starch" too. Unless we're having a casserole or soup, it's meat, one or two vegie sides and a carb side. If I'm low carbing, I just skip it.

No one has mentioned beans. We like baked beans, spicy black beans with corn, etc. as our carb sometimes. The kids like when I do biscuits, rolls, or cornbread - either homemade or from a can/mix.

ramen. you can pair ramen with anything. and its like $0.18/pack.

I always have couscous on hand for a quick side dish. You can even get the seasoned packages, and it cooks in no time at all. I love mine with a spoonful of sour cream. Hmm, might have to go make some.... :teeth:

Knorr Lipton noodle or rice side dish.

I like maple pecan garlic rice.

Cook some rice (we like uncle ben's instant brown rice) but any rice will work.

You can cook it the day before if you like.

In a wok or large pot, put some butter, olive oil, salt, pepper, maple syrup, garlic or garlic powder, and I like to put the Pampered Chef rosemary spice in and some dried parsley. Let the mixture bubble a little.

Add the rice, some roasted nuts (I like pecans or almonds) and some frozen peas.

I make enough for 3 nights at a time. Second and 3rd nights it's just a quick microwave!
