What Are Your Dogs Weird Quirks?

My one year old Shi-poo Bella likes to take a rawhide bone outside with her. Once we get outside she drops it and leaves it. I have to bring it back inside.

She also loves to jump in the backtub regardless of whether there is water in it or not, as long as the bath isn't for HER. She hates baths. Go figure!! :confused3

Dixie is a senior beagle, at least 12 years old (we adopted her as an adult dog 10 years ago). She goes and stares at the door when she wants to go outside. If we don't notice she'll start pacing on the tile or wood floor because the tapping always gets our attention if we're upstairs. If we miss all that she pees on the floor. That's not a particularly endearing quality.

Grace is a 4 year old Cocker/beagle mix. She will greet us with a sock or a toy (a gift!). And she rolls on her toys. Weird! She's the sweetest dog, though.
This is Grace:

I have a 13 year old toy poodle who eats mud... :confused3

5 month old Maltese Poo named "Elvis" here.

1) ONLY plays with GREEN colored toys.:confused3
2) Likes to drag the puppy pads around the house. He is VERY PROUD of that!:scared:
3) Stands up & WALKS ON HIND LEGS ONLY when kids are around. I guess that he thinks, Maybe they will think he is one of them.:scratchin

My Shepherd mix, Brodie, has to have his food a certain way in the bowl (and apparently I don't pour it correctly, LOL). If he doesn't eat it right away, you will hear him rearranging it with his nose. He will go at it for quite awhile, too ~ DH likes to walk by him say, "Nope, piece number 42 is still wrong". :rotfl:

We had a dog, Buddy, that was part Husky. He was so funny. He used to smile too. He scared everyone but us when he did it!

He also had a thing for my DD's stuffed bunnies. He would bring them downstairs and well not hump them like a normal dog. It was like he was making love to it.

He also loved the electric fence. He would run back and forth and get shocked. We had to get rid of it.

We also had a Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix named Oso. She thought she was a 10 pound lap dog. She was my DH's dog. But, back when we were just living together, he stayed out later than I thought was appropriate one night so I put the chain on the door. DH came to the bedroom window and knocked. :lmao: Oso barked and growled at him like he was a burglar. Good dog.

Ok, not really a quirk but a bad habit...taking food off the counter...

Charley recently recognized the sound when the heat kicks on.

He could be in a dead sleep on the couch, and if he hears it, he gets up, and goes and lays in front of it.

If he hears if and is in another room, he will check the vent in that room, then head to 'his' vent.

We finally put a bed in front of it. :rotfl:

He wasnt happy when the tree went up in front of 'his' vent.

Every and I mean every time I go to pat our beagle Max, he rolls over on his back so I'll pat and rub his belly:lmao:

Jackson, one of our Shelties loves to snuggle under blankets. If he lays on the couch and someone covers him up all cozy, he doesn't try to get up. He just falls asleep and takes a nice nap. He also enjoys laying under the bed. That's where he goes when he has found something off-limits to chew on. If we are missing something, the first place we check is Jackson's hiding place.

Our other Sheltie, Harley used to eat pebbles. I'd find them all mixed up in his poop which were sometimes more pebble than poop. We have areas in our backyard that has gravel cover. He'd just go to town eating the pebbles. I was worried sick thinking one of these days one would not pass and we'd have big problems. He hasn't done it in a while now, so I'm hoping that quirk has passed. He also chews on his dog tag. Eventually it gets chewed up so badly it's illegible (you can tell from this photo that he had already started chewing on it).

Super cute! Every time mom sees one she says "Ohh-I want to get one of those mini collies!" to which I reply "They're not mini collies ma. ". She doesn't seem to care-lol.

These are funny.... my Golden Retriever pretends he is sleeping in the morning so, we won't kick him out to go potty. He usually lays on his bed with one eye open and one closed watching you walk back and forth.

That's a common response because they truly look like collies. Our original plan was to get a collie, but then found these monsters and well... since they were much smaller we got two of them. Shelties are like eating potato chips -- You can't have just one.

Your Tully is a doll! Love the antler ears. I tried to get a pic of our dogs with the antler ears this past Christmas, but they kept falling off. As another OP said, that stuffed lamb is just like the free one from B&B. DD has one in her room so I compared. The only differences are the B&B one has brown hoofs (not black) and the eyes are closed.

Awww, how cute! Smart boy!

My dog, Kendra, knows she's not supposed to sleep in the bed. So she lays on the floor and when she thinks we are asleep, she comes and checks to make sure we are asleep and then gets in the bed. We have given up trying to get her out of the bed:rolleyes:

She will also bring her bowl to whoever is at home when she's hungry or thirsty.

She also likes to sleep in between DBF's legs--under the covers!!!! It's quite weird b/c he doesn't always sleep in pajamas.:scared:

We used to have a dog named Spanky that used to take all of the tags off of stuffed animals. He didn't chew on the stuffed animal, only took the tag off of it and left it alone. I guess he didn't like tags.:confused3

I don't have dogs of my own, so I "claim" my parents two Beagles Imola and Minardi (yeah, we have Formula 1 fans in the family) as my dogs. I end up taking care of them every so often, so I just claim that I own a timeshare on them. ;)

IMG_1965.jpg

Here's a picture of them. Imola is the one on the left, and Minardi is on the right. They're usually well behaved (except when they catch an interesting scent and decide to singlemindedly follow it to who knows where,) but they seem to have a quirk that whenever one is chewing on one of their pig hooves (yeah, dogs eat some pretty weird things if you let 'em,) the other one will always seem to want it. It doesn't matter if there's another one sitting right next to them, they always seem to want the same one.

:lmao:

I had a dobie that would wait at the front window every day at a certain time
(Jeopardy theme would play on the TV) for the kid to get home from school.
One day I taped Jeopardy 'n played it that night, the dog got up, walked to the
front window 'n waited...left the kid sittin' in front of the TV. :rotfl:

Imola and Minardi will do that too, as I found out one day. Back when I was dogsitting earleir this year, I put a video of feeding time on my Blog to show some of the quirky behavior that accompanies dinner (specifically, Minardi's cute little "excited" howl she makes when it's time to eat) there, and when I was showing it to my parents later on, and as soon as they heard the sound of the food hitting the bowl in the video they immediately ran over to the other room where the food is kept.

The video is linked from this post, if you want to see it.

My dog has a crooked tooth right in the middle of his bottom teeth. It sticks out a little bit and is just so funny/cute!

He knows the word peanut butter and what the jar sounds like when it is being opened. He'll come running and sit and lick his lips and wait/hope for me to give him some!

He loves to hide his tennis ball under rugs or blankets and "find" it like he didn't know where it was already!

When we adopted him he had severe double pneumonia and the vet didn't know if he would survive. He had a terrible cough then and now when he runs around or gets excited he wheezes and coughs a little bit. It's so funny!

He makes me smile :)

Thank you everyone for sharing all your wonderful dog stories. It truly made me smile. I love all animals, but I will say to the day I die-nothing beats a dog!

One more Tully story.

I was telling my DH about this thread and reading some of the stories. Well apparently Tully has learned the word "dog". Because every time I said it her ears would pop up. She doesn't move -just her ears. She's on call I guess-LOL:lmao:

Our 5 year old Yorkie named Mickey Mouse has a personality and quirks!

One funny thing is anytime my DH or I yell at him, he immediately stops and stares at his butt!!!! Then he just moves on. It is as if he had been hit there, but that has never happen as we got him when he was only weeks old and he does it every time:goodvibes

Another cute one is he is in love with my DH. Mickey will go to me for everything like food, to go outside, etc and I am the one who bathes him and everything else but he LOVES DH. So anytime he sees me hugging DH, he will run over and bark at me as if to say "hey that's my man!" :rotfl:

We loves him so much and I love to watch him wait in the window every day looking for his "babies", DS and DD, to come off the bus. And I also love it when he goes to the vet for his checkup and they say "ok we are ready for Mickey Mouse":thumbsup2

Our dog, Wizard, does a couple of things we just don't understand. He sits at the corner of my sons bed each day and licks his sheets. It is not where ds sleeps.

He also licks the doorframes of our house.

Weird...yes. But we love him.
