what are your Christmas Traditions?

"Basically, St Nicholas was Santa Claus,"
*chuckling* That one I knew, BethanyF ;)

And thanks for the link, it explained it well.
Being that both DH & I are of German descent
it makes it all the more appropriate for us
to start this tradition!

I love this thread...

No kids in the house, but we still do stockings. I do one for my mom and one for DFi, my mom does one for me. DFi, well I'm not sure if he ever had a stocking growing up, I'm kind of afraid of what would happen if he ever had to do one for me! Stockings always have to have an orange in the toe.

On Christmas morning we wake up and open our stockings. I usually set the breakfast table the night before so that it looks all nice and pretty when we get up in the morning. We wait for breakfast until after the stockings are opened, but the rule is that you can't open any of the other presents until after breakfast.

Breakfast is usually pretty "light" (in terms of amount!), sometimes just a croissant (with jam of course). All depends on the mood of the year.

After all the gifts are opened we make calls to the family (to say Merry Christmas and thank them for the gifts) and then we get a few hours to relax/play with new stuff. OR, many years we'll go to a movie - it's a darn good time to take in a movie. Dinner used to be at my grandmother's house, but now that she's gone my cousin has taken over hosting duties.

Our christmas traditions will be my father taking our kids downtown to see Santa one day usually middle of Dec(yes a school day and they get to skip). He did this with me every year and since I loved it and so did he we are continuing that tradition.
Another tradition is we have Santa come to our house on Christmas eve for dinner! :Pinkbounc (he is actually my dad's best friend who is a proffesional Santa (he has the real beard and the most amazing red velvet outfit).
Since this is our first christmas having kids DH and I have been really giving everything alot of thought of what we want to do. Reading this thread has given me alot of ideas ;)
Another tradition will be the apple and orange in the stocking and one night the week before Christmas going around and seeing all the lights.
Also in my Dad's family every year we get a new game and play it Christmas night after a big dinner.

Is it Christmas yet?:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
