We have a party this weekend and we're exchanging white elephant gifts, looking for some GREAT ideas!

THANKS!

ugh, my relatives did this one year! I ended up getting a cruise ship robe. (Not too bad) :D I gave this stupid rubber duck, dressed as a biker! :earseek: It was a prize I got for completing a race for charity. I felt so bad for the person that got it, LOL!!! :earseek:

I always pick up scratch off lotto tickets! I attach a small note that if there is a big win that they must split the money with me! :earboy2:

The best was last year - it was a $20 limit. Someone got these huge baby bottles (2 sifferent presents -one pink one blue) that was actually a piggy bank and it was filled with candy. They wrapped it and stuck a $20 in the bottom - it was great to see people faces when they opened the baby bottles. In our gift exchange you could "steal" the items up to 3 times. They quickly became the coveted items.

we always do this in our office. one year a co-worker of mine gave a plastic squeaky RAT! another year he gave a box full of plastic bugs. :rotfl:

OMG... I've never heard the term "White Elephant" gift exchange. :) Can I assume it's what we call a "Yankee Swap?" You all draw a number, pick a gift in that order, and you either have the option of picking a gift or stealing from someone else?

Too funny! It's obviously a regional thing. :) But I want to call our silly Yankee Swaps White Elephants now! :earboy2:

I think a White Elephant is when you give something from around your house that you don't want/need anymore. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

DisneyAddict_M , You are correct.
One year I got a Statue of Liberty radio, and one year I gave a Plastic Mickey head lunch box. Boy did everyone fight over that.

One year I gave a bubble gum machine, another year a dashboard dancing hula girl (purchased at the Polynesian!) - everyone secretly wants one! ;)

No, a white elephant gift is when you give something you don't want... something like a box full of hangers from the dry cleaners, or a puzzle missing pieces, or something funny like that.

We will exchange the gifts by doing a Yankee or Chinese gift swap, where you draw the numbers, choose a gift, can steal one, etc.

Gotcha! But we've done our Yankee Swaps with stuff that we don't want - where we're not allowed to go out and buy anything. :) So I guess technically we've been doing White Elephants all along! Ha ha! One year I got stuck with hemmerhoid cream. Merry Christmas to me!

Thanks for the info.

One time DS received a giant Bugs Bunny, about 5 ft tall, with a split seam. I sewed him up and DS gave it to his younger sister for Christmas. :rotfl:

Last year I gave a 10lb can of freeze-dried raisins--my DDs best friend got it and was sooo happy. She loves raisins :rotfl2:

This year I'm giving away the Gingerbread Nativity scene my SIL gave us last year. It has about a million pieces and is much more involved than your average Gingerbread house.

I always bring glass margarita glasses that have a cactus stem as well as a bottle of margarita mix...usually goes around the room a few times!

Thats what I thought it was also. I wouldn't spend money on anything when I have enough of my own junk to pick from!
