What are you saving for?

Been to Hawaii 5 times and hopefully will go back in a few years to celebrate my daughters sweet 16! Maui's my FAVORITE!!! Love it!

A Disney vacation in 2011! We will use our tax refund for most of it. We might be in Florida for two weeks split between Disney and visiting my folks. Will be the first time we drive there :scared1:

Disney!

We had already booked our trip for January 2010. A month or so later, I found out I was finally pregnant! :cloud9: Ten days after THAT my husband called and told me he had lost his job of 15 years and was getting no severance. So, needless to say...we did not go to WDW.

I hope we can manage a trip in January of 2011 - he is still not working full time but at least has a part time something:) We had all the money saved and have luckily not had to touch it. I am still adding to the account every month.

I will never again tell my kids about a trip like that until we are on our way, or close to it. That was one of the worst times of my life - to tell my 5 and 7 year olds that they were not going to see Mickey. They have felt a lot of changes since Daddy has been home, but that one had the biggest ooomph. :guilty:

so sorry

We drive all the time from NJ. My kids are pretty good and they don't mind it.

The kids and I have been following the "couponing to disney blog" and she saved for a DW vacation with "Found Money" rebates, etc. So I told the kids about it and we were inspired.
I should check out that blog. I'm trying to fund our Disney trip with "found money" also - anything I get from doing focus groups, rebates, bottle returns, change jar, etc goes into a seperate "Vacation" ING savings account. I have a little over $600 in there, plus another $400 in Disney Visa rewards. My plan is to save enough in the ING account to pay for our flights, hotel & park tickets, use the Disney Visa to buy those things & pay it off right away, then use all my Visa rewards to pay for our food & souvenirs on the trip. It will be the first time in my life I'll come home from vacation without the bill waiting for me and I'm so excited! I hope I can pull it off!

I just got a flyer in the mail the other day from a local bank for a $125 bonus for opening a new checking account - that's another $125 for Disney!

Ava,

I've been doing it know for 3 weeks and have over $200 in found money. We make a deposit every Monday. Our goal is $75 a week and so far we have been hitting it. Last week alone we had $60 in meat rebates and change. I have a refund check coming of $219 so I will add that. It all adds up.

Alaska next summer! We want to do a balcony room with lots of excursions. Then it will be saving money for hopefully a baby in two years :)

We have so many things we are trying to save for:

Trip to Disneyland as part of a business trip to California

Trip to the new DVC resort in HI in 2012

Cruise to Alaska

New car for DH

New-ish car for DD14 (still have a few years)

New kitchen

New bathroom

Fortunately our house is paid off and credit card balances
are too.

Have a great time when you go to Alaska!! We just got back last week, had an AWESOME time... want to definitely go back some day. Such incredible views, and went on a whale-watching excursion, and one on the White Pass Rail and into Yukon. Sooo much fun!

We did this a number of years ago, and it was a fabulous vacation. You will not regret it and will end up with some fabulous memories. :thumbsup2 My family has cruised a number of times, and generally I will go for an inside stateroom and save my pennies for excursions and other things; but, when cruising to Alaska, I think it is worth every penny to get a balcony stateroom. Watching whales, and glaciers calving (sp?), from your balcony is an amazing experience!

maybe I sound boring but I notice a lot of people are saving for "something" and I'm just saving to be saving. I'm saving to have money in case I need it for something later like if the washer goes out or if we need a new hot water heater.

So I'm saving for the future unexpected expenses I guess.

That doesn't sound very exciting but that's what I'm doing.:flower3:

I always save for saving too....I actually have 2 ING accounts, one for just savings and one for a wedding fund. I always have to have money in savings or I feel too vulnerable.

At the moment, nothing too big.

I'm looking forward seeing the savings account grow next year. The last 3 years we were saving for a house, start-up expenses that come with a new house, and fixing my teeth. Now, those are almost behind us. I have one more crown to pay for, but the money is in our FSA, and we can lower our contribution for 2011.

The smallish things are, trip to DL in Jan, maybe. If my parents take the Disney Panama Canal cruise, I want to meet up with them in CA. And I would like to get a sectional for the family room. The previous owners of our house left theirs. While it is functional, it isn't mine and a tad uncomfortable.

Sometime we will also start saving for a European vacation. I just don't know if it will be a Disney cruise, or if we will do our own thing through the UK/sidetrip to DLP.

Another vehicle since teenage son will be driving soon. Want to pay cash.

Paying extra mortgage payments to pay off sooner. Only 50K left on mortgage.

Paying the whole year of school lunches for my 3 kids so I don't have to do that each month. Hate those reminders each month. Using income tax refund to do this.

Also trying to utilitze cash back bonuses from credit cards to earn money for a trip to Disneyworld before ds graduates from high school. $600+ to date.

Best wishes to everyone.

We're always saving for two things.

Retirement and vacation. And that's pretty much it. We save the same amount each month for retirement and the money is deposited into our various investment accounts. We also have a set amount we save each month for travel and when we save the amount we need, we go on vacation. And then we start that process over again.

We've got the "new car fund" sitting in a MMF, but since there's nothing wrong with our SUVs and so that's been sitting there for several years.

Occasionally there's a larger ticket item that we may want or need that we fund out of our monthly discretionary spending, but usually that takes only a few months of putting some of that money aside.

That's it...pretty straight forward.

Well, we were almost done with our emergency fund, and then we'll look at a 'big' trip and paying cash for our next cars...but our AC went out yesterday so what we're saving for depends on how much that will cost to fix!

I have decided on the spur of the moment to plan a trip to Disney the week before Christmas this year. So I have paid the deposit now just "saving" to pay it off before 11/1/10. Trying to figure out if I should but plane tickets like TODAY or should I wait..prices have already gone up $120 since I started pricing them. Anyone have any thoughts on that topic..?
