I enjoyed Water for Elephants.
The Book Thief was amazing- one of the mosr powerful, beautiful books I hade ever read.
Alas, I am done reading for pleasure. The semester just began, so I will be busy reading assigned texts. First up is Hemingway's A Moveable Feast. I don't suppose anyone's read that?:rotfl2:

I ended up downloading The Book Thief. I am 90 pages in and so far its great. I hope it doesn't fizzle out.
It does not fizzle out. It's an amazing book.

What was the name of his latest? I read another of his books, She's Come Undone, (a good bit ago) and while strange, it was a good book.
The Hour I First Believed..........that was it. When I think back to it, it definitely made you think about situations & how one event can change the course of your life. While I didn't enjoy it as much as his other books, I would recommend reading it.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
And then I turned around and got a dozen non-DIS people to read it!
LOL - me too! They all loved it. My DD's who are in high school & college even enjoyed it!!!

I am reading "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" by Jean Shepherd. It is the book that The Christmas Story (The Leg Lamp movie) is from, and it's AMAZING! So Funny!

Next up for me is another Bourne Book, I think...

I finally finished Strangers by Dean Koontz. I feel like I have been reading it forever! Not sure that I would recommend it to anyone. It was rather lengthy and had a lackluster ending as far as I was concerned. You read and read and then a quick ending. I just dislike (hate just seems to strong of a word) books like that.

My next book up to read is True Light by Terri Blackstock. It's the third book of her Restoration series. I enjoyed the first two. It's about what if we lost all electric capability. No working tvs, phones, internet, blow dryers, electric stoves, air conditioning, nothing. Pretty heavy.

Just finished Mudbound....I was aware of the subject matter based on reviews from here, but had no idea how close to home some of those scenes would be. Sadly, I recognize several of the characters, and I'm glad my world is broader than what it would be had I been raised in that era.

I'm currently reading Edgar Sawtelle & Hunger Games. The latter is already making me uncomfortable. I'm curious to see how it'll be resolved. Does it remind anyone else of one of those Schwarzenegger movies from the 80s?

Next on tap will probably be The Help. Then again, it might be time for some comic relief or mindless fluff.

I have to agree with previous comments on The Book Thief. That one definitely stuck with me.

I don't know what to do with myself...I'm about done with the Plum Series. :guilty: I've really enjoyed her. I enjoyed Ranger even more. I'm reading PLUM SPOOKY right now and I do so enjoy Diesel too. Her next book doesn't hit til June....darn! So...I'm going to start the Diana Gabaldon series next. Her first book is called OUTLANDER and I'm told she's very good too. Haven't been disappointed by any recommendations yet.

Just want to share with some DIS friends....so I got an email a few days ago about my story on a website. The young lady tells me she reads the stories and doesn't look at the author name til the end. She then told me that her 4 favorites are mine! She didn't realize that til she started gathering info. Wow. One of my stories she said she had to read twice. That really did my heart good. I sent my last one to a few people here on the DIS and heard nothing back from them. :( I take that simply as they didn't like it because it wasn't their thing. Hurts a little, but that's the risk you take as an author when you share your stuff. I have a fifth one I'm typing up and will hopefully have up on the website in a few days. Just wanted to share good news. :)

I need to read her latest of that series but none of them beat the first one.

Finished True Light. It was an easy read but not as good as the first of that series.

Now I've begun The Shimmer by David Morrell.

The third book is really what sold me on the series. The grandma is a hoot and if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have read all the rest. Now I'm waiting for the 15th book to show up at my second hand book store.

It was Ranger that did it for me. I think the 8th book is my favorite. That's when Steph and Ranger "settle their debt". ;) Grandma is just ridiculous! I LOVE her! And many times I have just laughed out loud late at night. DH will come out to ask what's up, then see the Plum book in my hand. In the 15th book, or maybe it's the 14th, the bit about the Cable Company KILLED me! Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I just finished STori Telling by Tori Spelling...I am so fascinated by her life right now, growing up in the 70s and 80s watching all of her dad's shows.

Also just finished Four to Score, I'm getting through these slowly, I like them but have to be in the mood for them. (Grew up in NJ, sometimes 'the 'burg' hits a little too close to home for me :upsidedow)

Just finished Hunger Games...wow. I loved it. My older two kids have read it and so I had DD take it out of her school library for me.

Next I'm onto High Five, Made From Scratch by Sandra Lee and Bag of Bones by Stephen King (I wanted Under the Dome, but I'm 500-something on the library's waiting list!)

I loved "The Hunger Games!" I found it a great look at "the fall of Rome". I've read "Catching Fire" and loved it as well. I can't wait for the third book. It did make me uncomfortable, but I felt it was well-written, and very intriguing!

Right now, I'm re-reading The Nanny Diaries. I have the sequel, Nanny Returns on reserve at my local library. I can't wait. I love a good sequel!!

Just finished Lunch at the Picadilly for bookclub...it was alright, not something I would normally pick up, but isn't that one of the reasons for joining a bookclub? Next up I have Under the Dome...a nice change of pace.

Do you belong to any writing groups? I am a member of Georgia Romance Writers and I found my critique partner that way. Great way to get feedback on your work!

I too am reading The Outlander, love it so far.

I think I'm on the 4th or 5th book of the series. I was going to read "The Help" and take a break, but wanted to see what happened to the characters. It's been very enjoyable so far.

Just started Outlander & it's been pretty good so far. I didn't realize there were 5 books in the series. I'm really going to have to think about an ereader
because I'm definitely running out of room for all my books!

I have a lot of time to read due to where I work so I am currently on 3 books.

I am about 300 pages into the 700 pages of "The Hour I First Believed" by Wally Lamb

I just started "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan

and I also just started "Waiter Rant: Thanks for the tip-Confessions of a cynical waiter"

All great books so far!

I'm finally getting around to reading U is For Undertow by Sue Grafton. I've had it for a few weeks but have been too busy to sit down and read (and if I try to read before bed, I fall asleep!)

Just finished Hunger Games...wow. I loved it. My older two kids have read it and so I had DD take it out of her school library for me.

DD16 raved about this book ~ it's on my list now, too.

Next I'm onto High Five, Made From Scratch by Sandra Lee and Bag of Bones by Stephen King (I wanted Under the Dome, but I'm 500-something on the library's waiting list!)
Bag of Bones is such a great book! It's a little different sort of "creepy" from his usual "creepy", but a pretty riveting story. My DSis decided to surprise me with a visit late one night while I was reading it and scared the heck out of me, LOL! She thought that was quite a riot.

I am having such a hard time picking a new book right now. Everything I pick up seems to not fit my mood for some reason. Very frustrating.

The book I just finished (Through the Burning Steppe) was very good and I highly recommend it if you enjoy non-fiction/memoirs.

I think I'll just pick through a book of Edgar Allan Poe stories that DD16 brought home for now ~ hopefully, I'll feel like getting into something good in a few days.
