What Are You Reading Right Now?

I tried Stephanie Plum from the beginning, but didn't care for it (didn't even finish the first book). Should I have started at a later book?
You could try it but you'll miss some of the character building if you do so. I like her friend, whatever her name is, the prostitute also. But she gets a little repetitive in the later books. I can't remember which book she's brought into. Personally, if you really want to give it another try, I'd pick up where you left off and plow through a couple of books. If you still can't get interested after books three or four, then I would give it up.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one! A friend of mine couldn't stop talking about her books so I tried one. Just didn't get in to it. I finished it & it was OK, but I didn't think it was as funny or entertaining as it was made out to be.

After reading so many great comments on this thread I keep thinking maybe I should try another one but then I think that there are so many other books on my list I don't want to waste my time with another book that is just so-so for me!

I didn't really care for the first book either. In fact, I left it on the cruise ship where I finished it! I went ahead and read book two because I had it and I found I really enjoyed it. I'm up to book six because I'm taking long breaks between the books. I think I enjoy it more that way.

I'm the same way!

I just started reading "Little Bee." No real opinion on it either way, at this point.

Next up is "I Know This Much Is True" by Wally Lamb.

I've read a couple of his books. Is this one about the twin brothers? If so, I thought it was well done. :)

I'll let you know in a day or so. Just finished "Little Bee", so I can start this one, as soon as I get caught up in my medical coding class.

Just finished The Lovely Bones and have just started Water for Elephants

I got a Nook for Christmas and I recieved it on New Years Eve. I love it.

I read The Help, Outliers, and The Lovely Bones so far on it. I am not sure what I will read next but its great. I love all the ideas on this thread.

I loved The Help. I really enjoyed the Outliers too.

Although I couldn't put The Lovely Bones down, I didn't love it. There were parts and characters I really enjoyed watching develop, but I did not like Ruth's part in the book towards the end of it. I felt like the book "jumped the shark" at that point but I would still recommend it. I wanted to finish it before I see the movie which looks very good in the trailers.

I read this book so many years ago that I can't remember who Ruth is. I do remember that while everyone raved about this book, it was not one my favorites.

I thought it started out like gangbusters & then just dragged in the middle.

I'm glad I read it & I would recommend it to people because I thought it was a good story & told well, but I also didn't love it.

I'm pretty sure I Know This Much I True is the Wally Lamb book about the twins. Very good book.

His newest one was not one of my favorites though. I waited so long for it to come out, received it as a gift & then was not so impressed with it. If you're a Wally Lamb you should definitely read it, but it wasn't my favorite of his.

I LOVED Water for Elephants. What a great book & one I would have never read without the great reviews from the Disboards!

I ended up downloading The Book Thief. I am 90 pages in and so far its great. I hope it doesn't fizzle out.

My husband just finished it and he says it may the best book he has ever read. I am looking forward to reading it after I am done with Desert Fire.

Yes, it's the one about the twins. I read it about 12 (?) years ago. It was amazing!

How was 'Little Bee?'

It does not. It only gets better. It's an absolutely wonderful book. One of the best.

I remember reading it LONG ago and having that same experience - that I just couldn't put it down. I'd describe it more as "haunting" than anything else. It stirred up several emotions that I hadn't experienced before and it was compelling for that reason. I'd like to read it again someday, but that day is probably not soon.

When I heard there was a movie coming out based on it I had very mixed emotions. I'm not certain that I'd want to experience those same emotions while watching a movie. You can read a book to entertain you, to teach you something, to laugh, to learn about things you didn't know about before.. but you can also read a book to learn a bit more about yourself and experience things that you wouldn't otherwise experience. Movies are really more about entertainment to me and I just don't see how this book would "entertain" me in a movie format.

But, from the previews I've seen, it doesn't seem too much like the book (at least, that I remember). :confused3

Oh, it doesn't! This book has gone on my top 10 books of all time list!

"Little Bee" was interesting, and disturbing. It was well written, but I'm still trying to process how I felt about it. It was definitely not all neatly wrapped up at the end, but sometimes that's a good thing, right?

What was the name of his latest? I read another of his books, She's Come Undone, (a good bit ago) and while strange, it was a good book.
