Ugh! I am still reading Julie and Julia. I'm not very impressed with her writing. I read a few pages here and there, but I could just as easily put the book down and walk away for a month.

I just started Smash Cut by Sandra Brown. So far so good. :thumbsup2

Oh, Oh! Someone just gave me this book. It doesn't sound like you're too enthused about it.

I really want to enjoy it, but the author goes off in tangents in the middle of paragraphs that just annoy the heck out of me.

Well in honor of National Banned book week I have decided to revisit my childhood and read

Forever by Judy Blume
and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

I just finished reading Irony, by Jay Hurley. a family friend.

I am now reading Lady of the West, by Linda Howard

/
I am just now starting Mother of Pearl by Melinda Haynes.

I want to read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is a banned book. I saw it the other day in Salvation Army but didn't get it because I got sidetracked and forgot it. I hope to go back and get it sometime this week if it is still there.

Both of my teenage daughters read it, and they both enjoyed it a lot. Little bit of trivia it is Kevin Jonas' favorite book.

Awesome. I hope it is still there when I go back to look for it!

I just finished the Sookie Stackhouse books and loved them! They are truly a guilty pleasure/beach summer type of book. They are hardly "fine" literature but really fun!

I also just finished reading a great book called Spin by Robert Rave. If you liked The Devil Wears Prada you'll probably like this book. I do have to say that I am a little biased since one of my college friends wrote it. If you get the chance, check it out!

A Wrinkle in Time is a banned book?

It is 22 in the American Library Association's list of most frequently banned books...from Wikipedia
Reasons given include the book's references to witches and crystal balls[11] (although the characters are not in fact witches, and the crystal ball is a science fictional one), the claim that it "challenges religious beliefs"[12], and the listing of Jesus "with the names of great artists, philosophers, scientists, and religious leaders".[13]

I think there's a compilation of short stories in the Sookie series out next week.

Dead in the Family (#10) is due for a 05/2010 release right now. That's subject to change this far out.

I'm reading, based on a DISer recommendation, Who will write our history? : Emanuel Ringelblum, the Warsaw Ghetto, and the Oyneg Shabes" by Samuel D. Kassow.

I couldn't believe when I read that the calorie ration for the Germans was just over 2,600 calories per day. For the Polish, it was 699 calories and for the Jews, it was 184 calories per day. I knew that things were awful for the Jews, I just didn't realize they were getting that few calories per day. No wonder so many dealt in the black market just so they could eat, let alone survive.

I think after this, I'll be off of the Holocaust books for a while. I need time to regroup in my head. Although, I'm grateful to those who took the time to document their lives during such a horrific time.

Wow! I actually read it while I was in Catholic school too. It wasn't required reading, but we were allowed to select books and write book reports and I picked that one. I really enjoyed it even though I don't remember the details of it.

Good grief. . . I'm so bummed! You're right!! I have to wait another few months to read number ten. Oh well! At least there's something new coming out next week!!

Well, I finally finished Kristin Hannah's Firefly. I knew from reading here sort of how it was going to end, so I was prepared. I vowed that there was no reason to cry. But when I got to the very last page and she danced, that did it! I cried. Next up, Tamara Myer's Play it again Spam. Gotta read something light and funny after that one.
