Halfway through Wicked. Didn't know what to expect, but really like it so far. :thumbsup2

It's bizarre, but I liked it! "Son of a Witch" is good, too, but I didn't love the others of his that I read.

Tinkerbellarella and Stacerita- I hear you about reading for pleasure. I just finished my last class this morning and am not taking any summer classes! I am going to finish up "The Lightning Thief" (kid book suggested to me by a H.S. Eng teacher, since that is my field), then I don't know what to read next!

Perfect Match is Picoult, Snow Flower is another author (can't think of her name right now)

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is written by Lisa See. She also wrote a sequel to it called Peony in Love.

Oh, is that a sequel. I just saw it at Barnes & Noble today & almost picked it up but figured I should finish Snow Flower & the Secret Fan first. Glad to know it's a seqel because so far I like "Snow Flower".

LOVED this book! And Son of a Witch is good too. Not as good as Wicked, but read it afterwards. Great ending to it, IMO.

If I recall (been awhile) didn't seem like there could be another book after "Son of a Witch"?

Just finished 'Blood Brothers' by Nora Roberts, & 'Blind Alley' by Iris Johanssen, both of them for the umpteenth time!

I really have to splurge & buy some NEW books!! (Then again, they would cut into the planned Disney trip fund.) :goodvibes

Can anyone suggest a writer with the Lisa See style? I would love to read more about that time period & culture...thanks:)

I just ordered Memoirs of a Geisha today for the same reason. That time period/culture seems pretty interesting. Have you read that yet?

Oh, I would love that! I want to know what goes on beyond that, what happened to the girl!? I haven't heard there was a book though after it. I will go search and find out.

Found this...so looks like we will see one!

It is the basis for the Broadway musical Wicked. A sequel, titled Son of a Witch, was published in fall of 2005. As of October 2006, Maguire is working on a third novel in the Wicked Years, A Lion Among Men.

Gregory Maguire stated that there will be a movie, but not for four to five years, and it will be based on the musical.

Love this thread! I have not read through all of the suggestions so sorry if I repeat.

I really enjoyed Year of Fog

I am now reading Lost and Found by Carolyn Parkhurst. I really do not like it but am giving it 100 pages before giving up. I would NOT recommend it!

Someone PLEASE tell me that Atonment is going to get better.

I was barely past 100 pages on Sunday & I'm only at 130 pages now. It's putting me to sleep every time I try to pick it up. I've never put a book down when I'm this far in to it, but I might be doing just that.

It is just dragging & dragging. Is their any point to this book & when do you realize what it is?

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who did not like this book. I cannot get into it. Now I will not even try. I moved on after starting it three times. I was planning to go back to it but now I think I will skip it.

I have & really enjoyed it...that is what actually made me do some research and find Lisa See, not sure who to buy next.:confused3

The Invisible Wall. - really loving it-
Historical kind of read. I have been reading more and more of these kinds of books. I read The Worst Hard Time - that was a rough one to get through. The River of Doubt(teddy roosevelt) another good one.
I liked reading outside my comfort zone. (which is usually Evanovich books:rotfl2: )

Well, I'm glad too. I gave it 200 pages, actually 200 lonnnnggg pages!!! I felt like I was listening to someone tell a story that kept going off on tangents & never finishing telling what they started.

I really wanted to like it too. :guilty:

I am reading the Last Summer Of You and I by The author of Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants seris.
