Water For Elephants

That is what I want my book club to review next month. This month is The Book Thief.

I am reading Song for Night by Chris Abani. It is a novella about a boy recruited to fight in a civil war in Africa when he's a young teenager. This was selected by my library for a county-wide reading discussion. I have to finish it by Thursday night. Shouldn't be a problem, though it's difficult to read because of the inhumanity that is caused to this young man.

I just finished Still Alice ... wow. It is about a woman who gets early on-set alzheimer's .... just wow!

I just finished The Help today. Really liked it. I have Sarah's Key to start next and then the Sookie Stackhouse series:thumbsup2

A few I have read and really enjoyed are Patty Jane's House of Curl by Lorna Landvik...I liked all of hers I think. Also loved Pillars of the Earth even though from the description it didn't appeal to me at all, ended up loving it!

In the last month, I read all 15 of the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. Waiting for #16 to come out on June 22!

Now I'm reading "Are you there vodka, it's me Chelsea" by Chelsea Handler. It's pretty good.

I'm reading Outlander right now and really enjoying it! I plan on ordering the rest of the series from Amazon this week.

After many years of reading "chic-lit" and Twilight/vampire type books I thought I would broaden my literary horizons:snooty: ....so I bought "The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway: The Finca Vigia Edition" for my kindle. I am now on the third story, 'The Snows of Kilimanjaro'

Shall I just say "WTH was I thinking?!":confused3 ----well, I did learn someting and that was that I definately prefer reading "fluff" books!:hippie:

I read this book about a year ago and I had the same reaction. It is one of those books that really stays with you.

Did you already know someone who went through Alzheimers before you read Still Alice? I've been afraid to read this since my DH's grandmother and uncle both had it and I was there to witness most of it.

No, I did not know anyone personally. And I think it's a great read for someone like me who has had no direct experience with it.

I think the more "awful" part of the book was that she was so young.

:rotfl2: I'm with you!!

I'm almost finished with The Book Thief. I'm really loving it but I'm just waiting for something bad to happen. I'm almost afraid to finish it.

Mennonite in a Little Black Dress

I am not one to read and laugh at humorous books, but I am really enjoying this one.....and laughing out loud too! Very quick and easy to read. However, be warned that there is some trashy vocab throughout the book and the author makes you laugh at some delicate subjects.

What a great book that is. One of the best books I have read this year!

I just finished The Fogotten Garden by Kate Morton. Loved it and couldn't put it down!
I'm starting The Owl and Moon Cafe by Jo-Ann Mapson.

...my DSis just gave me the first book (Divine by Mistake) of a series by P.C.Cast that I can't wait to get started on....:hyper:

Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer.

My son is reading that.

Just finished "Under the Dome" by Stephen King- reminded me of "The Stand".. More like the old King I know and love :thumbsup2

I used to be a Stephen King junkie but his writing I thought went downhill after his accident. I'm pretty far behind on his books now. Maybe I shold check this one out.

Juts started AMERICAN GODS by Neil Gaiman.

I've read that one. Don't remember much about it though. It was a while ago.

I'm reading Patricia Cornwell. I started reading her books years ago but I hit up a used book store and got her earlier stuff. So I'm starting now at the beginning. I like her Scarpetta series.

Hopefully I'll do more reading this summer and I'll check out some of the books mentioned here. I do want to read 90 minutes in Heaven.

I started Reckless by Andrew Gross last night and I'm already into it by more than 200 pages. Loving it!

Next up is The Handmaid's Tale.
