What are you getting your 11 year old boy for Christmas?

My boys would LOVE that Lego Dictionary.

Great idea.

Dawn

For something that suits his interests but isn't a "toy" consider investing in the Lego Dictionaries. I just picked up the Bionicle and Star Wars ones for my kids. The Star Wars one comes with an exclusive figure. It has photos of every star wars lego set ever made. Totally cool. They couldn't keep it in stock at the school book fair despite the high price (It's $22 but you might be able to get it with a coupon from Borders.)

Other cool things I got for the oldest when he was 11 - a metal detector, a chemistry set and we got him started on some "collections" which now give me something to get him every year. We now get an antique lead soldier (about $10- $50/ea.) and a Ted Williams Baseball card from the Fleer 1959 set every year ($3 - $35/ea). I get them on e-bay and the local shops. Middle DS started his own collection of rocks :rotfl: so this year he's going to get a display case for the rocks with a couple of new rocks.

My 12 y/o son wants a small video camera.

Maybe get him a digital camera (to take pictures of his lego creations).

an MP3 player to listen to while he is building something great with his Knex. My son downloads audiobooks from the library onto his MP3.

A couple of great books for his age. (I have lots of recommendations if you need them.)

Sure, go ahead and list the book suggestions - I need all the help I can get!

Same problem here for my boy. 10 going on 20! He loves his video games but I need to get him something else. I was thinking about a bike but he has one and he's more of a brainy kid - no sports or anything like that interests him. Loves to read but he gets books all the time... I am totally at a loss this year... :confused3 I have done the paintball stuff, board games, clothes, before and it wasn't a "hit" so I am not sure.

I have been looking at those electronic modeling kits - the ones that you construct a working robot or something like that. I am just at a loss and am reallllyyy trying to keep things un-game related.

Maybe an AP? lol, I am about to give up.....

Let me know if you find the robot that moves after you build it - my ds would probably like that. He likes Knex that have the motor with them. popcorn::Keep these great ideas coming!

My ds is 10 1/2 and loves all the other things mentioned by previous posters. He also loves science kits and other weird gadgety things...Edmund Scientific online has some really cooll stuff! http://scientificsonline.com/Default.asp?bhcd2=1257186190
He has the sonic rocks that they show on their homepage and loves them...his friends think they're neat too!
They're on clearance for $6 http://scientificsonline.com/product.asp_Q_cmc_E_HOME_PAGE_A_pn_E_3122737

Thanks for the link!:cutie:

My 11 year old would rather go naked than get clothing for Christmas! :lmao:

Dawn

LOL!:lmao: You speak the truth! My kids have never been into any certain kind of clothing. They like to have new things to wear, but God forbid if it is their present under the tree! It's okay if it's from Grandma though.:lovestruc

Curious about this too - my son just turned ten, but he's still in the somewhat hard to buy for category.

Does anyone have the Lego Mindstorm? He's interested in it, but the reviews I've read are 50-50, and it's big bucks.

I just ordered this for my DS (he 9 & a 1/2)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0756655293/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

I have a netbook on layaway for him. I'll probably get him a bigger Lego set (they're so $$$) I've purcashed a few PSP, DS & WII games for him. His dad got him a nice bike for his B~day this year. Maybe I'll purchase a $100 Universal Studios ticket for him (well for all 3 of us) will they be good in 2011? I don't know if we'll visit FL in 2010.

It's so much easier & funner to shop for DD.

My 11 year-old DS wants an ipod touch, sports jerseys, assorted video games & DVDs

My son liked tech decks. Does he have a sports team? cologne? I get them toothbrushes every year:rotfl:

Aside from the usual video games and Legos, my DS11 will be getting some fun books. He loved "The Encyclopedia of Immaturity" that he picked out at the book fair last year, so I ordered "The Dangerous Book for Boys" and another one, "For Boys Only: The Biggest, Baddest Book Ever", and "Monster Hunt: The Guide to Cryptozoology". He watches Monster Quest as much as he can on The History Channel and he is really going to like the last one. "Guinness World Records" and "Ripley's Believe it or Not "books are big with him, too.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is very popular among boys that age now.

BTW, he does NOT like to read books that he doesn't like..he reads these books and enjoys them!

Maybe a chemistry set?

I see my 10 1/2 yr old is right on par w/ the other boys his age. I have the same issues getting the same stuff.

We am getting him a DS along w/ his brothers and games for that.
He enjoys his MP3 player. We got a cheep one last yr. to make sure he would not loose it and would use it. He likes that and he got a i-tunes card to get some music for it.
Legos. we have a huge trunk full but he is getting more, again. He rides his scooter a lot w/ other boys in the neighborhood.
His favorite computer game is all versions of roller coaster tycoon. He plays them forever and now want to be an engineer so he can invent rollercoasters.
He doesn't mind some clothes but thankfully he is just as happy w/ Target/kohls clothes than any where else.
Does he collect any baseball card or others? They are great stocking stuffers and I found some at the dollar store.

I also just ordered (today was payday) Guiness Records 2010 (DS asked for this recently) and Ripley's 2010.

I'm a member of the having an 11 yr. old boy club!

Mine is asking for a laptop (he means a little netbook), a dock for his ipod, and Star Wars Wii games. He already has a digital camera and phone (not an i-phone, just one with a keyboard). He's also getting the 39 Clues books he doesn't have yet, and he loves those Schliech(sp?) animals -- he has a bunch but I'm sure I'll find a few new ones to put in his stocking.

He already has a Patriots jersey and Celtics shirt, and that's the extent of his sports love. Ok, he likes the Patriots cheerleaders and the Celtics dancers, but Mom's not ready to support that yet....

He's really into Star Wars: Clone Wars, so I'm hoping there might be something he really likes. One of his favorites is a dictionary of all the Star Wars aliens. He can be occupied by that for hours. He also loves the new Dr. Who, so we'll get him some comic books.

I'm also thinking in terms of "experiences" for him -- coupon for a day out with Mom and/or Dad, doing whatever he wants to do. He loves to go to the movies, Science Museum, bowling, etc., (so we're going to go anyway...), it seems like a gift he will appreciate since it's "His Day".

My oldest will be 11 at the end of November. For his birthday he is getting a Nintendo DS. For Christmas he is getting some DS games, Wii games, MP3 player...Not sure what else. He just finished reading all of the Harry Potter books, so I might look into another book set for him.

I HIGHLY recommend the Percy Jackson books....my 12 year old blew through them all and is now asking for them to own so he can reread them!

I just bought 2 copies of the Lego Star Wars Dictionary at Amazon for $11.87 each! It also includes the exclusive figure. My DS9 and DS11 will love these. Thanks for the idea! Barnes and Noble also has them for the same price if you are a member. While I was looking for something for $2 so I could qualify for free S&H, (Impossible!) I came across these:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_8...&field-keywords=excavation+dig&sprefix=excava

I ordered the Egyptian Tomb for DS9's January brithday, and if DS11 likes it I will get one for his birthday, too. He got a flat dinosaur one a year ago and he really liked it.

Thanks for all the suggestions! My DS10 turns 11 in January, so I'll carry some of these ideas over to his birthday as well.

My DS is getting some DS games, Wii games, Legos, books (I second the Percy Jackson series...my son LOVES them), and for his "big" gift I am considering an acoustic guitar...he wants to take lessons after he gets his black belt (hopefully April), but I thought we could look on You Tube together to get started??

He likes collecting autographs, so last year I sent away/requested a bunch of requests for autographs from some of his favorite actors, musicians, etc. and we received a BUNCH back. I created a "book" for him consisting of a binder and those page protectors...I split them up into categories. He's gotten a few more that were "late" for Christmas, but he just added to his book. I've been grabbing any new ones out of the mail and will give him new pages to add to his collection. Some of his favorites include James Earl Jones (Darth Vadar), Taylor Swift, Dan Radcliffe, etc.

I'm so going to get the Lego Dictionary and will look into getting the software to do the stop action movies...the Claymation one didn't get great reviews on Amazon, does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks!
