What are you favorite sides/dips for Thanksgiving?

Just been invited to a Friendsgiving dinner at my cousin's house. She's making the turkey, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole. I think I'm going to bring deviled eggs and this pumpkin spice dip that I just saw (depending if I can find the pudding mix). Anyhow, I'm thinking of bringing one more thing.

Any ideas? What are your favorite things to bring to a potluck (or even make for you T-day meal)

A block of cream cheese with salsa poured over it. Wheat Thins for dipping.

The favorite app at our Thanksgivings is generally cheese balls.

You can vary the type of cheese and the coating depending on what you like or to avoid allergens.

I usually grate some cheddar or Swiss, mix it with cream cheese, form it into a ball, and roll it in chopped walnuts, bacon bits, or crushed French-fried onions.

Serve it with whatever crackers you like.

Other app ideas:
Veggie tray with ranch
Buffalo chicken dip

Or you could do a second veggie for the meal

Boursin cheese and crackers
My mother's avocado dip.....glad I learned the recipe, need to get DD to learn it. No recipe and a lot of tasting to get it right.
Usually DIL adds some veggies with Ranch, some nuts and some meat sticks

I make Cannoli Dip for all of the family get-togethers when we have dinner. Actually not having Thanksgiving this year at my house, though. It's a good sweet dip if you get tired of having all savory things for the holiday. I got the recipe from AllRecipes.

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/235797/cannoli-dip/

They say to serve it with Pizzelles, but I just buy empty cannoli shells and break them up or you can also use Graham crackers.

If you live close enough to transport hot dish, my new fav is baked Brie. I don't wrap in dough. Just put in pretty dish (I use a fluted pie pan) and stick in oven 350 for about 20 minutes. When it comes out top with any number of things - for Thanksgiving a cranberry chutney would be good. My friend does a brown sugar/kahlua thing. Sprinkle with pecans and serve with bread rounds or water crackers. People love it

I know you said there's no set recipe, but I'd love to hear the general outline of the ingredients and preparation and give this a try myself. I'm an 🥑 worshipper!

Sounds like a lovely holiday!

Depends how simple you want to be and the budget. Truly biscuits or cornbread you make or refrigerated from anywhere is always loved by many people. They can be popped into a wam oven while the turkey is cooling and cook quickly without being too disruptive to the cook.

Knoors Veggie Mix Spinach Dip with Pumpernickle swirl bread cut into squares.

Can buy frozen TGI Fridays Artichoke Dip and serve with tortilla chips.

Sure.....3 ripe avocados, softened 8 ounces cream cheese.......then the part that needs tasting, Worcestershire (about a teaspoon) salt, lemon juice (to stop the browning, but not too much. You don't want it to be sour)
Let it sit for a few hours and then taste......watch the salt because the chips have it too.
Add more Worcestershire if you think it needs.
Best if made a day ahead.
I use a food processor to blend it all. We didn't have that when I was a child, so a beater works too.

Oh,....I use garlic salt

My avocado dip is super similar, but I use celery salt and garlic powder. It's the base for my Taco dip and it is SO damn delicious! I am heading to Target now, might have to get stuff to make it for football...thanks for the reminder!

Thanksgiving ... Artichoke dip is always requested of me. Was thinking of making this, too

So, if it's a friends' giving and you're not sure of everyone's dietary needs, you can make your pumpkin dip more accessible with a container of Cocowhip, a jello pudding mix (vanilla, butterscotch, caramel all work well), and 1/3 of the can of pumpkin pie filling (stir mix into pumpkin filling and then fold in whip) . Taste and see if you need more spices or more sweetness (I usually don't, but I have added vanilla when I've used vanilla pudding).

Great with apple slices, pear slices, pineapple, clementines, grapes, and both graham crackers and baked pie crust sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. If you have gluten free folks, you can just stick to the fruit or find the GF boxed version of graham crackers.

PS - With no dairy, the worry about this sitting out for awhile for snacking and getting everyone sick also goes way down...

PPS - And I like the add of fresh fruit to every potluck meal. Everyone eats it, but no one tends to bring it (unless it's just a prebought melon tray) b/c it takes more chopping/prep work...

And if you don't love the fresh fruit, being the "cranberry" person is also not bad.

If no one else is bringing it (and hopefully folks are talking about what they are bringing so you don't get lots of duplicates), I'd get 2 cans of the jellied stuff and then make my homemade sauce, so everyone is made happy with their cranberry choices. You can't have Thanksgiving without some form of cranberry...

I remember when a popular combo was cream cheese with a jar of red pepper jam or jelly poured over and wheat thins on the side. have no had it for years but it was always popular.
What about some kind of sweet nibble, like cookies or brownies?
co-worker brought the same thing to every work potluck and they were immediately pounced on-

boxed no-bake cheesecake mix but instead of doing a crust in a pie-tin she put an individual nilla wafer in cupcake wrappers on top of which she poured the filling (she got the mini nilla wafers and used small wrappers so they were bite sized). when they set she topped each one with either a bit of cherries or blueberrys using canned pie filling. YUM!

I like to do a snack board. I do cheese, crackers, pepperoni, pickles, olives, Boursin cheese, nuts and grapes. I also bring some cannoli from a local bakery.
