my trip this year was financed with Tesco vouchers and selling my daughter's second hand clothes on ebay. I had been saving them up for ages and ended up making £800, sadly ebay banned me from selling any more unless I upgrade to a business seller account.... I only sell once every 2 years or so lol.

I make cakes for friends kids birthdays, the ingrediants come out of the weekly groceries and the £20-£30 I get for the cake goes straight into my Florida Pot, also in this pot goes any £2.00 coins we happen to get.

we have a spare change pot and anything under 10 p goes in
also i have started doing my food shopping online - its much easier to stick to a budget and then any money left over goes straight into the holiday fund saved over £100 in one month though i am being less careful this month ;)

i bank with LLoyds, they do 'save the change' if you buy anything on your debit card they round it up to the nearest pound and put it in a savings account - i never notice it going but its surprising how it mounts up!

I can they ban you if your selling second hand clothing. I thought it would be if you were buying and selling on for a profit??? not sure though..

my account on ebay is a private seller, but i think it could be youre pay pal account once you do so many sales they get you to go to business.

they all like to take there cut out of you

That was exactly my point when I emailed them, I even copied and pasted their definition of a business seller as someone who buys and sells for profit. I told them that as I work as a teacher, I can only list during the summer hols as I don't have time during the working week which is why I listed so much all at once.

They would not back down and said that they have a limit set for private sellers and if you go over the limit, you are flagged up and that there was nothing they could do, that I had to upgrade to a business seller or my sellers account would be suspended. So I told them to go ahead and suspend it, no way was I going to have a business account that might only get used once every one or two years

Well as me and the boyfriend are hoping to buy a house as well as go to California for a friend's wedding next year i'm pretty much saving every spare penny I can, after bills and food I budget a set amount for luxuries and everything else is straight into my ISA. Also planning to do continue my eBay selling and start sewing more stuff to sell.
ETA: I'm also a discount code/Quidco/supermarket own brand fiend, rarely pay full price for anything non food!

Thanks for posting this! :thumbsup2 I also bank with Lloyds and I didn't know anything about this service. Needless to say I've just signed up for it! :goodvibes

I also have a change jar which I just throw any spare change into and I sometimes do extra hours at work and put the extra money away for the trip.

Could you start another ebay account under a partner's name? Might be worth doing if you have more stuff to sell.:confused3

I do carboot sales, Ebay, save £2 coins and shop for bargains all year round.:)

how much do they charge for a business account?

you know i've never ever been on ebay, but i'm thinking maybe i should sell all our old 'stuff'....
i'm a pack rat as is everyone else in the family....
i have 20 years of 'stuff'.....zillions of stuffed animals and all sort of everything....all good quality....
i wonder if i could sell it...

we've been planning a trip in september, but when i started working the numbers, it's absolutely astronomical...i told the kids i just didn't think we could do it....what with the flights and everything so costly...

but maybe i could do the ebay thing and it would help..
plus get rid of all this clutter as an additional plus...

Do it! It's very therapeutic to have a clear out.:)

At the minute nothing.

Will get back into gear after Christmas.

We ebay, me DD's old clothes and DH electrical bits and bats.

We had a big clear out last summer and made some ebay money for our trip - I used the proceeds from selling DD's baby pram to pay for the perfectly princess tea party.

We also try and save something every month.

I don't bother about presents for me, i've not asked DH for anything for xmas. I'd rather use the money for florida.

I'm also working extra hours at work since DD started school in September which helps.

i guess this is a sign of the times....for many years i didn't have to think about it, but somehow the economy has caught up with us and i'm starting to feel the pinch... sad i guess...

To be honest, I don't know how much the business account would cost, I wasn't gonna upgrade no matter what lol.
I would definitely sell some of your stuff, in the past I've even sold stuffed animals on ebay that I have won from those grabbing machines.

Its really strange the types of things that sell on ebay... my brother once sold a kind of old wooden branch that used to be in his fish tank,,, I kid you not!

I did not have any idea that my daughter's clothes would sell for so much, I was so excited when I realised that I had made enough to pay our trip off, plus my cupboards and underbed storage boxes are now free of old clothes. :goodvibes

i never thought of it - i'm on ebay now (for my first time ever), reading the directions for selling! thanks!! :goodvibes

my hubby sells a collection of cds on ebay he's made atleast £700..
but for this holiday we're living off one wage and my wages goes towards the holiday :)
its def an incentive

We save £2 and £1 coins (last year we got £430 which paid for a really special anniversary treat for us at Disney), I do online shopping and whatever it tells me I have saved on offers goes in a tin, I draw an extra £10 out of the the ATM when I use it and this goes in the tin, I get a lot of the BOGOF offers which saves me shopping as often hence not having the temptation to spend money, I also do a lot of batch cooking and use the slow cooker which works out really cheap for a meal.

We also put money away each month for things like car expenses, clothes, hair salon etc so that it is affordable when we need it and not a major shock out of one months money.

My DH has just found out he is on a 30 day redundancy notice so I'll be coming up with loads of other ideas too!

oh no - so does it mean it's a sure thing that he'll be let go in 30 days? ......i hope there's severance pay involved...that can be a bit helpful until he can find something else.....
