What are you doing to get into the holiday spirt with the kids....

Looking at Christmas Lights is one of our big traditions -- we try to do it several times each year. We go out to dinner first and then get either an eggnog shake or hot chocolate to enjoy during the ride.

Monday:
We rolled out and cut out sugar cookies and listened to Christmas music while we all decorated them.
Our shelf elf stayed up late playing my son's Mario game on the playstation. The kids found him this way in the morning.

Tuesday:
We went look at Christmas lights and sat out in front of a house that their lights flash to the music on a radio station for 30 minutes. So fun!
Our shelf elf put up cut out snowflakes all over the house after bed time.

Wednesday:
Made red velvet cookies for a cookie exchange.
Our shelf elf put up lights in our kitchen after everyone went to sleep.

Thursday:
Tonight is that cookie exchange

No idea what we are doing the next few days. :goodvibes

We are watching holiday movies. Last night was "It's a Wonderful Life."

Tomorrow we are going to see Arthur Christmas. Today, I had DS buy DH a present with his own money, wrap it and put it under the tree. No small feat for my horder 6 y/o. We also had a really fun time trying to sing together (and remember) the 12 days or Christmas. We're planning to build a gingerbread house maybe tomorrow, as wel as do a little baking. I try to have a lot of Christmas music on. Today we really got into the Chipmunks Christmas CD. We do a lot of advent calendars too. Also having fun with our elf. The other day he sat outside of the room where I wrap presents so that he could report back to Santa what presents I purchased so there were no duplicates.

We eat a lot of candy canes!

Go around town looking at Christmas lights and making cookies for Santa Claus to eat. i here he likes a lot chocolate chip cookies a lot. LOL

We watch holiday cartoons, drive around in our jammies to look at lights, tomorrow I'm taking DD who is 5 1/2 to the Nutcracker (it's our 3rd year going together). I typically bake but we're moving in 3 weeks so I skipped baking this year.

We went and saw Santa at the mall tonight (last minute decision as DD had been telling me all week she was scared of Santa and didn't want to sit on his lap).

Last weekend we went to Tuba Christmas. Last week we also made salt dough ornaments and painted them.

We've tried looking at Christmas lights but 5 minutes after we get in the car, DD tells us she's done and ready to go home.

Christmas Eve we're decorating a gingerbread house, getting Chinese takeout & DD can open her new Christmas book that's under the tree for her and we'll read that along with the recordable Hallmark Night Before Christmas book my dad got for he last year.

What are we not doing! We spent the day watching Christmas movies and making gingerbread houses. We've done a bunch of Christmas crafts. We've baked goodies for ourselves and for dh's work. We have Christmas music going non stop. More movies tomorrow and then that evening we are going out to look at lights in pjs and will have hot chocolate in tow. We've made reindeer food for the big night.

On Christmas Eve we are going to see We Bought A Zoo together, then go to church.

My daughter and her frinds went xmas shopping at the dollar store. Came back to the house had a snack and got fdown to wrapping all the gifts they bought for their family.

I bought ready to bake sugar cookie dough and my daughter and her frinds decorated cookies for 5.5 hours.

My daughter had a friend over for dinner and they helpe light the Menorahs. We are not Jewish but celebrate the holiday so my children grew up knowing the background of Hanakah.

My sons not so much but they do enjoy the goodies we bake.

All of the parents commented on how wonderful it was the girls kept talking about it and they were so grateful for the experience for their own.

It was my pleasure to see them having so much fun except the long hours spent art the dollar store man can those girls shop!

I have to ask... huh? If you're not Jewish, why Chanukah of all things? It's such a minor holiday... do you celebrate all Jewish holidays? Do you say the blessing when you light the day's candle? Sorry, I just have never heard of that.

We always drive around town or walk around the neighborhood looking at Christmas lights. Yesterday we spent the whole day baking and listening to Disney parks Christmas music on d-cot.com. DH got home from work early and as soon as he walked in he said "It smells like Christmas!"

Tonight we plan to deliver our treats to our neighbors, which is another of the kids' favorite Christmas activities. We have neighbors across the street who are huge Disney fans and their entire house, inside and out, is decorated with only Disney stuff. We love visiting them this time of year!

We had a Jewish house guest a few years ago who was far from home but we made sure to have a Menorah and gifts for her to celebrate. We joined her when said the blessing one eve. I didn't know much about it at all, so it was a learning experience. I donated the Menorah to a local nursing home the next year. (it was electric)

For us, we have done a lot of baking, lots of shopping, of course decorating the tree, made paper chains. I often have christmas music on.
Today we had such a fun house full and exchanged a few gifts, did a lot of eating and laughing. Later tonight we are going to a holiday light drive through. I am really pooped and will sleep well tonight no doubt. I feel so happy and grateful... its nice.

It starts on Nov. 30 when I have the kids put the chocolates into their felt re-usable countdown calendars. These are the first decorations to go up so they are ready for Dec 1. In the first week of Dec., I put out all the decorations except the tree and the kids are excited to see them again. DH puts the lights up outside, so beautiful. Around the middle of the month we get our tree (fresh) and the kids love to help me decorate it. Then the baking starts. They look forward to making/decorating gingerbread every year. Then we have our annual Christmas party which we all look forward to every year. Usually it is the last Saturday before Christmas but that seemed early this year so we had it Dec 23 (last night). We invite DH's and my closest friends and their kids (which we have been doing since before any of us had kids) and this year it was 11 kids and 11 adults in the house. A great time was had by all.:santa:

We cut out sugar cookies a couple days ago. We haven't decorated them yet.

My youngest and I are baking a batch of baklava for santa now. We will bake a pizza for him later tonight. Santa always gets pizza and beer at our house.. to mix it up a bit. We're adding in baklava for good measure.

We will do the christmas eve service at church tonight. The boys will each get one gift to open after church.

We are also celebrating with my parents in a couple hours.

Fun fun fun times. You can feel the excitement in the air.
