What are weather and crowds like first week of October?

I'll be staying off site but with my 80 year old parents. We've all been many times, but this is my first time to be there in October. Dates are 2nd to 9th. So what kind of weather and what volume of crowds should I expect? I think the Food & Wine Festival will just be getting started then.

During wine and food season crowds are noticable on weekends, but great during the week. I have been there the second and third week a few times (will be there 10/16 to 10/20 okw) and the weather has always been GREAT. Of course i love when the temps are in the 80's daytime and 70's, high 60's at nite

We were at BWV Oct. 3 - 10, 2004. Weather was 80s day and 70° at night. Still a little humid. No rain. This was just shortly after the hurricanes ended in September.

We have been going the 1st week of OCT.for the last 5 yrs.We think its the best time of the year to go.Crowds not bad weather is great!! And as you can see it will be 6 yrs in a row for us come Oct.We plan pretty for out so in 2006 we are planning 10-12 nights in oct.
