What are the red/white cards?

We just got back from WDW and my DH saw that some people had a red and white card about the size of a credit card that acted like a fast pass on the rides, even when there was no fast pass being offered at the time. Does anyone know about these cards?

I've also seen cm's hand people the cards on their way into the que area of a ride, then they give it to the cm when you actually get onto the ride - maybe it has to do with wait times???

We got one once, and when I asked if this was for the wait time the CM said yes.

Yep they are for the wait times.

They are indeed for wait times. Hubby was handed one on the Tomorrowland Speedway and its a way to keep track of how long the line is at that given time.

and if you still haven't figured it out, the CM at the entrance gives you the card then calls the ride operator with the time, then the ride operator gets it and sets said time accordingly

The red and white cards are Guest Assistance Cards (GAC). They are different for each party based on individual need. For example a party that has a member in a wheelchair would have a card allowing the party size to utilize the handicapped entrance. Many times they allow the party to utilize the fastpass lines as an alternate entrance. This would have been what your DH witnessed.

Actually, it's all electronic now. The plastic cards are scanned at the start of the lline, and scanned at the end of the line.

Guest Assistance Cards are also red and white, but they are somewhat larger than credit-card sized ... closer to index-card sized.

They gave my 2 year old niece a red card on a black lanyard that was to track the time when we were riding Pooh in September. She didn't want to give it up when we got to the front of the line. It was pretty funny. LOL

My Hubby and I were asked to carry those cards maybe 4 or 5 times during our three days in the parks. We were just amazed at how many times we were asked to carry them. By the fifth time we just assumed that we looked responsible and nice and therefore could carry those little cards. We also agreed that the guest should get something for carrying those little cards. I would have even liked a Mickey sticker.

We saw a child walking out of MK wearing one of the cards they use to determine wait times. I guess he didn't understand and decided it was a perk. He had the strap around his neck.

Back in October, we were also asked 4 or 5 times to carry the card. Back in 2003, I was also asked to do something similar at Universal Studios during the Halloween Horror Nights. They were trying to adjust the wait time for the haunted house that we were waiting on line for.
