Funny how people can pick out what they want and dont want to hear, or read.
I say I have come in contact with people with tongue piercings and I can't understand what they are saying and it becomes, "they can't understand anything people are saying".
The most "COMMON" place I run into people with multiple piercings and tattoos are when they are bagging my groceries or washing my car. Sure, there are exceptions, but that's where I run into these folks the MOST.
I never see a guy with a face like a tamborine sitting behind the desk at my bank.
While some people say this is judgmental it is very very true. These things make some people uncomfortable. Anytime you are serving someone who is a customer you are striving to make them feel comfortable. MTV did a True Life, I hate my tattoos one of the guys wanted to get rid of them because he couldn't find a job that would hire him with visible tattoos
No I'm really not kidding, I dont see what the problem is. I dont see why tongue piercing's are considered inappropriate.

Ick.
I don't know where you live, OP, but in our state, a legitimate piercing establishment can't pierce 'em until they're older than that anyway. So I'd be wondering how she got that piercing....
As a parent of a 20 yr old that has one I can see why it is not good for an 11 yr old to have one.
He had trouble eating and talking for at least a month and it hurt, but at 18 that is his business not mine . At 11 I cant imagine his reaction and how he would handle it. He would have messed with it all day long and showed his friends it off all day long and most likely gotten some sort of infection .
I am astounded that anyone would let their kid get one at that age!!!!
Once older and more responsible, then go for it!!
i live in nj. I don't know where she got it done, but i think it's very inappropriate for an 11 year old, sexual or not. I see her all the time in the hallway, so the next time i see her i will ask her where she got it.
Personally, i'm not a fan of piercings, but if an adult wants to do it that's fine. I'm not judging anyone that has piercings. I just don't think an 11 year old needs one, and i don't understand why the parent would think it's okay for a kid that age.
As far as the sexual activity thought. If anyone thinks 11 year olds are not thinking about/doing things, i'll let you in on a little secret. My school has gone to a very strict policy about kids in the hallways. We've had 6th graders in past years that were meeting in the bathrooms and stairwells to do very "adult" things.
A few years ago when I worked as a high school nurse, I had a student come in in pain with puss oozing out of his tongue thanks to the piercing he had. Lovely site! I've also seen belly button rings partially torn out, dozens of infected and scarred ear lobes, etc. Just thought I'd gross everyone out, and point out another reason why a tongue piercing isn't really a harmless choice for acceptable rebellion for an 11 year old child.
Gotta admit that I never knew the sexual connotation to tongue piercings, though. Learned something new on the DIS again. I think I learned about "tramp stamps" here, too. How nice.
