What are the odds?

We are planning a family reunion in August next summer. I own at BLT and there is plenty of available rooms for the week in question but I haven't booked yet. The rest of the family wants to stay at BCV, cash room. I can't book at BCV until 7months out. If I wait what are the odds to get into BCV for 3rd week in August? Can do either studio or 1 bedroom.

Should I book BLT now and try at 7 months to switch? This is new to me, we have only every stayed at our home resort or a resort where location didn't matter so much. I would like to be at the same resort as my family it will make the trip easier.

We can afford cash room but we have DVC for a reason.

I think there will be something available for that timeframe at the 7 month window, but we ALWAYS book our home resort as early as possible when we have a firm date like that, and then try to switch at he month window.

I would do the following:

1. Book BLT now as that is your backup plan and gets you on site
2. Book a paid (i.e. not points) room via DVC member number and ask for cash discount for BCV
3. Call that the 7 month window and see if you can switch your BLT reservation to BC
4. Cancel any cash room nights that you are able to get via DVC

Alternative options:
1. Adverse on DIS for a BLT-BC point trade so you and someone else can book each others resort at 11 months
2. Rent points from a BC owner and then rent your BLT points to someone else

You should not act on the assumption that BCV will be available in August at 7 months out. If using points it would likely be available, but your post says you want to do cash, presumably at the DVC discount. What is available for cash with the DVC discount is not always or even usually the same as what is available for points and it is unknown what might be available at the DVC cash discount at that time. Note, that also applies to BLT at 7 months out or any other DVC resort.
