What are the chances on waitlist.

I know this question probably gets wore out, but I have to ask...

What are the chances that a waitlist for a long weekend in late October will come through. DH and I have been kicking around the idea of taking a short trip Oct 23rd to the 27th and we finally decided to pull the trigger. I waitlisted a studio for the days we want at both OKW and SSR since I figured those would be my best chances, but do I even have a chance? I do not have a cash reservation... yet anyways. We are still discussing that.

Thanks!!

Waitlists are a toss of the dice. You'd have a better shot if you'd waitlisted at six months out than at two, but sometimes you just can't- I totally get that.

The problem with guessing your chances is that by definition, for any waitlist to fill, someone else has to cancel. And, there is no way to find out where you are on the list. You could be next up for a room for those days, or 100 deep. DVC won't tell you.

These factors make it impossible to say whether your two-month waitlist has a chance. But given that it is a F&W weekend, I would go ahead and snag a cash reservation backup if I were you. And of course, stalk the website as frequently you can fill the list there before DVC does it via the list.

One thing to seriously consider for a short trip, if the cash Disney resort prices make you cringe versus what you're used to with DVC: maybe book a cash stay at a nearby off-property hotel or resort. Very good properties consistently are available at a fraction of what the mouse charges. Something worth considering if you end up not being able to use DVC for this weekend, anyway.

Being so close I would not expect any WL beyond 1 day to come in.

But If I wanted to try I would attempt SSR (normally most available rooms) and I would only do single night waitlist at a time.

It being so close I don't think there is enough time to get the nights you need. So you might want to try 2 nights per waitlist. Problem is, a WL for a few days will get skipped if they can't give you all the days you want. So you could miss out on open days if you set the WL to long. By selecting single days you will have a better shot at getting days. Also I would stalk the website for single nights and booking them as they come in.

If this was me I would change my dates to fit what is free now and then try to piece on the rest of the days. Like for example 3 nights in a row are free at SSR (19,20,21) that I would take if I were you. Then I would WL a single night on each side of the confirmed reservation (18,22). I would then monitor the website daily to see if my waitlist comes in or if other nights free up. For example if the 18th comes in I would create a new WL for the 17th. If the 17th or 23rd became free I would book them in hopes that either the 18 or 22 WL could finish the days I need.

Best of luck.

I can tell you right now that weekend is packed at the DVC resorts. I booked right at the 7 month mark and at that point only AKV, SSR, and OKW had any availability. We got our waitlist for GFV to come through, but the DVC resorts will all be packed that weekend.

Thanks! I've been watching the website since yesterday and am happy to report that I was able to pick up Thursday and Friday at SSR. So now I have a waitlist for just the two days! I might change to having each night waitlisted separately. But at least I am halfway there!

If you only need 2 days then yes you should definitely do 2 single day waitlist. That way they can confirm the single day for you without the other day needing to be free at the same time.

NOTE: This year I put together a 9 night BLT trip in late Oct doing this same thing.

Best of luck.
