What are the chances of a last minute room in December?

We are in the home stretch of finalizing our resale purchase, closing docs all sent off and just waiting for deed to be recorded. I know it's a long shot but what would our chances be of A- actually having the points and B-getting a studio at any resort for a few nights (3 or 4) in december? We're trying to see the Osborne lights one more time. My husband has 7 days off at a time so we're pretty flexible on dates.

Thanks for any insight!

I was able to do it last year. I started out having to change resorts but all of the days came through a few weeks before my trip. I did have a one bedroom, they are easier to book.

In past years, I would have said no problem if you don't mind doing a split stay moving once. BUT, this year has been incredibly tight on rooms and I don't think you have a very good chance, unless you are willing to move multiple times. I hope if you decide to do it, it comes through for you.

I agree you could generally get OKW or SSR - but this year probably because of what you mentioned - the lightshow at Studios - all the resorts (not just DVC) are filling up.

besides Dec is hard to get = many DVC members go in Dec

that say look anyway - there are last minute cancellations all the time - so you might get luck.

has Disney not done there ROFR on your purchase?

We've passed ROFR and closing docs sent off. The timelines I'm looking at I think we will have our points right before thanksgiving. We're going to play it by ear and see what happens. Thanks everyone!

IMO the availability has changed from last and prior years and I think that it will be harder getting rooms going forward.

In addition to more members due to direct sales, don't forget that at 60 days out DVC can transfer rooms to Disney for cash guests.

You might be able to get something like four nights, Monday through Thursday, in a one bedroom at SSR or OKW. There are zero Friday's available in December, and maybe one Saturday. I remember seeing a few rooms on Christmas Eve, but those are the most expensive nights of the year.

I'm hoping to do the somewhere between dec 2-8. I just checked into paying cash for a room and there's apparently nothing on property at all. This is going to be a long shot to say the least but I'll hold out hope and see what happens.

That is the single most popular week for all of DVC. It does seem unlikely.

I would say it Is extremely unlikely but good luck

If you live close by and able to drive to WDW,for those dates you may have a better chance if you call MS the day before or the day of to see if anyone cancelled their reservation. I know I had to cancel one of my reservations 24 hours if advance. So it does happen!

We're about 10 hours away. I think we're going to try Jan 1-5 if this doesn't work. Seems like that would give us a slightly better shot.

I got pneumonia last year and had to cancel in the 30 day window.
I imagine with the thousands of members, that happens relatively often.
So if you can go on short notice, things may open up that close.
But the first 2 weeks of Dec are unlikely.
Your idea of first week of Jan sounds more likely.

How long did it take after ROFR was waived to close and receive your points?
